Q:

Refill problem

Pump works great . Gun shoots great .
Tank won’t take air unless empty.
Is the valve nipple worn?
Where can I get one?
Thanks

Just a S.W.A.G. but could it be that with an empty tank you are getting the tank and pump screwed together all the way but when there is some pressure holding the TH forward in the closed position you stop screwing them together when the Top Hat snugs up inside the adaptor? The collar of the tank should contact the adaptor. It takes a slight increase in twisting torque to marry the parts that holds the valve stem open enough to allow it to fill.

quote synopsys:

Even with a bent stem the pressure gauge should rise and rise to over 3000 from the volume of air infromnt of the valve, mine goes up to 2500 if the tank is at 2500 psi… Or you wouldn’t be able to pump past 50psi with a good tank….

You may have a bad pump…

The th is connected to a stem that goes down inside the valve and into the tank…

If you spin the th when the bottle is empty does the th rotate off center? Or does it get harder and then easier as it spins… This would be a sign of a bent stem.

So you did confirm that when the tank is empty the th won’t depress? If that is the case it shouldn’t shoot hardly at all…

I’m thinking the pump is faulty, if it is an AF pump the chances are high that it’s bad. 😕

But it fills fine up to 3000 from empty? Can’t be a bad pump…?
But yeah, should pump the line up to full pressure.. 😕

What stem?
Howd it get bent?
How do I fix it?

quote ziton:

The top hat isnt letting air in.
It goes up to 50# then the pump loads up.
pressure isn’t going in the tank.
There is no blockage up to the top hat.
Lke the top hat isnt depressing .

Bent stem, has to be. Lucky you managing to depressurize after a full fill….

Wow, that makes no sense at all??!!
If you can fill it from empty….WTF!
As Syn’ says, are you pumping enough to bring the line up to pressure?
I’m guessing you are, seeing as you have to pump loads from empty before you see the needle go up….
Bent stem is my bet. Does the pump get VERY hard to push down when trying to top off??

Does it totally lock the pump? I have to pump for a while before it builds up enough pressure to fill the tank or give me an accurate fill reading…

Did it work before, or has this been a constant problem?

Does you needle move at all?

New valve, new pump, good things but makes it even more strange that it isn’t working…

You don’t have anything in the refill adapter that would depress the tophat when it get screwed onto the pump?

The refill adapter works by over pressurizing the air in front of the tophat until it is greater than the tank and pushes the tophat into the valve like it would when you shoot. If the valve works for shooting it should work for filling…

When the tank is empty does the tophat move in and out easily?

Yes the top hat.
Its a newer condor and airforce pump.
I cant top off the tank or see how much pressure there is.
Any ideas?

Valve nipple… 😯 Do you mean the top hat? That shouldn’t make filling a problem unless it is bent so far the stem kinked…

When it is empty does the valve move freely and easily?

Is this a Condor or Talon valve? And is it the older Condor valve if it’s a Condor?

What kind of pump are you using and do you have the refill adapter?

Sorry for all the questions. 😀
