Q:

Refill Problem

Any of you have problems refilling your tanks? All of my air is leaking out the side of the refill adaptor. I have tried every tank and every tank has the same problem.

I just bought a new refill adapter and gauge, same problem.

I had the valve on my tank replaced…same problem.

Any ideas on what is going on here?

Thank you,

Bones

IIRC they are called Dowdy Seals or washers.

sorry about the misinfo onthe orings bones. won’t let it happen again! 🙂

bones: I believe you need the special o-ring/metal washer combo on the other end of fill adapter. I don’t know the name of that special o-ring? This o-ring/washer slips on over the small threads. They should be available at auto or motorcycle repair parts store. Take your fill adapter and o-ring with you so they can match it to the one you need?

Perhaps Voltar_1 can tell us the name of this odd o-ring. Ok, I found the name, This company calls them “stat-o-seals” available online at: http://www.darcoid.com/includes/stat-o-seals.html

take the adapter apart and replace the two orings in the swivel spigot.
likely need snapring pliars to get it apart IIRC.

fresh orings and divers silicone

Thank you. Those two o-rings are fine, it’s now leaking where the adapter screws into that component. So it could probably use a good flat rubber washer. It leaks where the yellow dot is (on the image seen above earlier in the thread) closest to the adapter that the bottle screws into.

The o-ring solved the problem in the area where the tank met the adapter, but then it moved the problem to where the adapter screwed into the double o-ringed joint that slides and has the nut. I tried putting an o-ring where indicated with the yellow dots and that only made it worse.

Maybe some flat rubber washers might work better??

I can’t believe how terribly this has been made.

You’re welcome bones. That O-ring falls off easily and is a common problem. Very easy to lose as you’re not the first.

My new Airforce refill clamp came with a bad Pressure gauge. Would only read to about 2800 psi reguardlees how much air was in the scuba tank.

My first several fills were probably 3200psi 😯 the TAG saved the day for me.

Thanks

Yes, there should be a large o-ring the valve butts against on the fill adapter.

Sam 🙂

Bingo!! That’s my problem…..thank you sir!!

?you are welcome!

Walter…

Sort of strange that AirForce would send a new adapter without the o-ring.

bones: Are you using an Airforce fill adapter? Can you post a picture pointing to the leak?

My Airforce fill adapter leaked around the nut that the fill adapter screws onto through the clamp. To fix, I removed the nut in the middle that presses against the scuba tank o-ring. There’s 2 o-rings on the nut that the fill adapter screws into. Put divers silicon on the o-rings to stop my leak. You can also put some divers silicon on the scuba k-vale o-ring. Also there is a o-ring on the fill adapter that presses against the valve, this may be missing.

Leaked at the Yellow dots.

Sam

My issue is at the end of the adapter, past the threads after it has been screwed in. Thanks for that info though, it will be helpful for others.

This may be a silly question but is the bleed screw tight?

Is it leaking from a threaded connection? the gauge? where the AF tank screws into? where is attached to the divers bottle?

A little more info would help up alot in helping you

Dave

Yeah, I had the bleed screw tight..its coming out between the threaded barrel meets the adapter…i was thinking oring too…but have never realized one was needed…

Bones

I don’t have an o-ring, never saw one before, but that crossed my mind.

Is that really the issue? Is there an oring on those suckers??

Put a new oring on the valve body before screwing the adapter on.

You are using an oring right?
