Q:

Regulated or not!?

I have a condor ss and I want a better shot count and I would also like to increase my accuracy at further ranges. Currently have about 1 inch pattern out to around 55-60 yards. I have found my optimum power wheel setting for shots and accuracy as well as fill pressure. Everything I’ve done without a chrony so it’s close but not perfect. I am wondering if I should go the regulator route, or buy a chrony and mess with the top hat? What do you guys recommend for me? I’ve been contemplating for months, and money isn’t the issue just want my best setup because I hunt at least 3-4 times a week and would like to be more confident every time in my further range shots 65yds +.

That makes perfect sense so what will help with my accuracy? Than in that case Idc for a reg because I have no problem adjusting for POI.

Accuracy and consistency are two different things.

If the absolute best your gun will do is 1 inch at at 50 yards… then that’s its accuracy potential (assuming that’s the best the GUN will do) Adding a reg wont give you 3/4 inch at 50 yards… what it WILL do is allow you more shots at a given range before you need to adjust for POI.

In other words, if you shoot a 30 shot string at 50 yards and you have a high deviation, you’ll see vertical stringing as the shots rise in power, hit a sweet spot, and then start to drop in power. That has nothing to do with the accuracy of the gun, but rather how effective the shooter is at knowing holdover/under depending on where they are in the shot string. The reg takes that out of the equation….make sense?

that’s what I thought…and I don’t think Altaros has any plan to make their regulators for paintball type tanks. Too bad, but I guess I can always go the jdsairman/co2 adapter route.

Valve on talonp is 5/8-18 nstead of 18-1.5 mm on talon and condor.

Just bought one this month because I dropped a box on one of mine. Found out I could send it in for repair so I might have 3 to shoot thru.

hey rob, I looked into the Altaros reg too…
but I have a TalonP and with that the paintball type tank. I’ve already invested in another 22ci tank so I don’t care to buy an airforce tank. But it seems like the Altaros reg only attached to airforce tank. Is that true? I can’t use the Altaros reg on TalonP tank, correct?

Dont own a TalonP… the only AF gun I dont have… so I’d hate to tell you wrong. I would ‘imagine’ if the valves are the same thread on the TalonP valve as the regular valve then it would work…. but again, would hate to give out bad info.

Pellets have a velocity sweet spot. Some, like JSBs, are pretty much happy at any velocity. Eun Jin are more picky. In my setup. Your’s is probably way different. Once you have a feel for what’s going on, you can decide what to tune for. You can also tune to a bell curve to maximize useful shots. To me a chronograph is more useful in understanding what your gun’s doing than for tuning, and they’re damned useful for tuning.

My .02c

I have a Condor and 3 Talons…and one Condor set up to shoot arrows.

Background on the two early Talons. I spent a lot of time trying to get them in decent shooting shape…. I ended up getting a reg from Altaros for one and it was like magic. Groups well… lots of shots. Got a reg for the other…. ditto. Best money I ever spent on those Talons.

I’ve not yet regged my last Talon. So far, it seems to be shooting ok so will tinker a bit more with it and see what happens.

Now with my Condor, I had the same issue…. lots of tinkering, but just didnt care for the accuracy and shot count. Then I got a one piece top hat from Tony with the removable inserts. Put in the middle insert and it’s perfect.

I dont know what your CondorSS is shooting at, nor what velocity you are looking to get. If you want a decent shot count with higher velocity, I’d say go for the top hat from Tony. If you want a bit lower velocity but a ton of shots (as well as a little extra LOP due to the reg) then go with the reg. I have my regs set low… and out of my Talon in .22 with a 24 inch barrel, I’m right at 24fpe. Same set up in .17 gives me 16fpe. Could turn them up, but dont feel the need.

What caliber? You need to know what your gun is shooting at so you know where your at.

Reg setup won’t help with accuracy. It will make your gun consistent shot to shot.

I can hit golf ball size and smaller rocks at 110 yds but it’s not because of my reg setup.

I’ve realized if you want a gun that shoots the same every time and don’t want to tinker with it an air rifle probably isn’t your best bet. I originally bought my condor for hunting around 30 yes. First day shooting it, I was almost same hole at 30 yds. So I took it back to 50 and wow I just stopped. Next day went out and played with it for about 5 hours. Got my settings as best as I could for farther shots. Realized this shit was worse than crack and ever since have been playing with it to fine tune it with only fill pressure, pw setting and the 2 distances I’m zeroed at for my best purposes. I would like to throw pellets out to 100 yards with at least enough accuracy to hit a soda can every time. I would like to be around 1 inch groups maybe 1.5 inches at 70-75 yds. I was looking at the reg setup Jds air reg etac and bottle. But than got to thinking about playing with the top hat to see how that works. So right now I’m leaning towards reg setup but want some more input!

But hey at least you have a bigger fill station now! 😯

Buying a Chrony will cost you. And not just $100. It will cost you a LOT more. It’s the WORST mistake an airgunner could make (see my post).
