Q:

Regulator setpoint?

The manual says not to shoot below 120 bar (1740 psi) Is this the regulator set point? Or is the set point lower? Wondering how much pressure is behind each pellet. Also, it say damage can occur if shot below 120. How does this damage anything?

Thanks

Who and where is KIWI-WINGS?

Looking for answers!

My understanding of a PCP regulator operation is that it regulates air flow from the reservoir into a firing chamber until it reaches the regulator set pressure and then closes. Once the reservoir pressure drops below the regulator set pressure, I thought that the regulator valve would just stay open allowing the firing chamber to float on reservoir pressure and turn the gun from that point into essentially an unregulated air gun. Don’t know anything about the detailed mechanics so really interested to learn how operating with the regulator constantly open causes damage.

I’m thinking that below regulated pressure the hammer is over powering the valve and slamming it either past it’s designed limit or against a stop point. If an oring is blowing under that condition then it must be over travel of the valve.

My Vulcan is a 177 , I have lowered the reg set point down to 90 bar or a bit less. In both times the low pressure O ring raptured.
Somewhere I have read Ernest saying that at extreme low pressures seals go off.
Now I am not sure if it has a mechanical reason such as the O ring friction with metal.

Oops…I have been shooting my 25 down to 120 bar. Of course I did read the manual on how to load the magazines and Max fill pressure. Totally missed the lower pressure limit so ran out to the shop and sure enough…don’t go below 150 bar for 25’cal. Now you have my attention…hope someone has some insight.

Benj…you are not as stupid as you look! As I too, have pondered this point. How can going below the regulator pressure set point damage anything!

We must send out a call to KIWI-WINGS, all knowing, all wise, semi-literate moderator, experienced in such matters…he will know!

Quick…someone light up the Kiwi-Signal and shine it into the night’s sky, so he may come to our rescue…
