the 10/22 is a descent rifle with plenty of upgrdes. Here is a Pic of mine.

anyone see the ruger sr-22
I’ve got one of the Marlins here that has gone well under 1/4″ at 100 yds.
It out shoots my 22-250 or .223 at 100! (With CCI TNT only). the ballistic ammo will group at about 1/2″ or a little better.

that gun sucks. Trigger on the one i shot was HONESTLY….over 10 pounds and could not group better than about 1.5-2.5″ at 50 yrds. Tried Sub sonics and some Winchester wild cat HP ammo. Could not get it to shoot and YES, IT DID JAM A FEW TIMES.
Marling or CZ 452 for accuracy outta the box or a RUGER 10/22 if you want to build a TOTALLY tricked out looking 22
Get a savage model 93, short overall length, stock options, bull barrells, even stainless if you want it, you wont look back, accutrigger is awesome!!!! 😀 😀 😀 Under a half inch groups at one hundred yards easy. I think i paid $250 for my stainless bull barrelled .17 HMR in a nice laminate stock when they first hit the market, i love it. 😀 Bolt action though. 🙁
I’ve got a friend who has one in 17hmr. I’ve never heard him complain about his and hes never had an accuracy problem with it before out to 65 yards….

Take crowpoppers advice and get a 10/22 or if you can find one a marlin model 25. I bought a 25 for $120 last year in almost perfect condition with the bolt still breaking in. It can shoot 1 inch at 50 yards with cheap Federal ammo and MOA groups with CCI minimags.
I played with a few in the store. You can push the bbl. left in the stock ans it stays left. Push right, It stays right Terrible bbl. attachment to the action. The Scope is on the action, and the bbl. moves around. Not good for accuracy. The old Nylon 66 had the same problem. You coulddn’t keep a scope sighted in on those guns! 👿
My Rem 597 shoots just fine.
I have a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x-40 on it though, the one that came with it was pure shit.
It is doing better than 2″ at 50 yards but I never really set out to see just how good it does shoot.
I found it jams if I don’t clean the clips on a regular basis, like every 5-6 times of use each. Otherwise, it works just fine. I now have 5 clips for it, got 3 at Gander Mountain in the Used Gun Accessories display case for $2.00 each!!! If the 30 round clips for it were double stack instead of single, I would get one for it. I just don’t like the long clip. You can get double-stack clips for the Ruger 10-22, but not for the Rem 597… why?…oh why, why, why???? 😕
You can’t go wrong with a Ruger 10-22 though, but I really liked the way the stock felt in my hands on the Remington verses the Ruger as-is with the standard wooden stock.
I hate semi auto so there is not much in that category I can recommend. The 10/22 is a nice little gun though out of the box, and can be made even better with the billions of aftermarket parts.
Marlin makes some very nice rimfires. I’ve played with a few, used to have a semi auto one, not amazing but a good gun none the less.
And of course, my response to anyone looking for a .22lr. If you can afford it get a cz. Most accurate on the market, can outshoot a lot of the custom 10/22s right out of the box. Shoots crap ammo really well. Just a good gun.
And getting a .22lr is an awesome choice. I’m so glad I got mine because I get to shoot so much more. I went through 700+ rounds last weekend and it cost under $20. I never could have thought of shooting any of my other rifles that much.

Don’t get it.
My brother has one. I absolutely hated it. Couldn’t ever seem to get under 2″ groups at 50 yards. Trigger is the worst one I have EVER felt on any gun. (which didn’t help group sizes) It’s worse than my m44 trigger, and that was made 60 years ago. It constantly jammed. It was a terrible gun, not worth the cheap price tag.
I tried to like it. Used a couple of scopes, took it apart and polished the trigger mechanism down to make it smoother. Just never could get it anywhere above crap.
So yeah, I don’t recommend that at all.

IF you get a 10/22 you will probably want to upgrade the trigger (it’s a lot like the AF trigger), get the Jard trigger with the 1lb pull… { http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=810571 } Only problem it’s a third of the cost of the most expensive factory 10/22 USST Target Rifle (which comes with the factory trigger)… The Volquartsen trigger isn’t all that better than the stock trigger, I should have grabbed the Jard but it wasn’t out yet (I hate it when that happens)…
CZ bolt action for the same $$ it will out shoot the 10/22 easy (Lama nailed it). The bolt action 22LRs are more accurate at longer distances because some of the velocity isn’t being used to recycle the bolt. If I was going to do it again I would probably go for a bolt action deal like this…
