Q:

Rem 700

Well, my birthday is around the corner, June.
Ha, Turners Outdoors has a sale on a Rem 700 in .308
$649.00, well Mrs SAW stepped up and put $500.00 deposit on it today
Being in CA I gotta wait 10 days 😥 😥 😥
I have a Rem 700 SPS already in .223, and that thing is a absolute tack driver, hope the .308 does the same, looks as if the Viper scope is gonna have to come off my Talon .25 😥 😥
My 223 can hit 1/2# exploder targets all day long at 300 yards
hope the 308 can reach out a bit further
anyone here have any recommends on ammo 308 wise ?
Ohhh God, I am bad

Thanx for the info
My 700 in 223, I can shoot exploding 1/2# targets out
at 300 yards, these targets are about the size of
1/2 a beer ca
I would someday like to start reloading for sure
for now I simply enjoy hittin shit way out there
By the way, for my 308 any scope reccommendations ?
Gonna go with my Viper for now
however some time soon gonna have to get serious

reread your post, you had the bull barrel?
I thought my 223 kicked pretty hard for 223, compared to my Mini 14
and yes the 308, I expect to buck a whole bunch more
Hope I can tame this bad boy, don’t expect to shoot it as much as the 223, cause the cost of ammo, I just felt my 223 700 needed a big brother
Ha, I tell you what, it will be sure a ton of fun having both them out there
shootin off the mat
😈 😈 😈 😈 😈
Going to AZ next weekend, the 308 won’t be there, however the 223 and the Sig 516 Patrol will be.
along with the Colt 45 Govt, ohhh man can’t wait

My model x-10 savage 223 dont even have the recoil of a 22 automatic rifle. It is called a walking varminter, I use 55 grain bullets and I make a dummy load for the gun by sizing a casing and then starting the bullet in it and then put it in my gun and finish sizing it by loading the bullet and it will be in the lands. Thats the Dummy load I always use to set my dies with. Weigh eatch case and lot them and weight them when the primer is in them, weigh eatch bullet and when the charge is in the casing set the bult on top of the scale and make sure they are all the same befor pressing the bullet in the casing, I shoot one hole groups with mine.
Now ….. use 168 grain bullets with the 308 and load them the same way. I have found that winchester brass is the closest brass to buy and make your own loads. The 308 is a Peace of cake just get a scope that is acctually made for the 308 and dont just pick any scope just because it is a well named scope, make sure it is a 308 rated scope. That way mosr are rated for the 168 grain bullet and has the range in them for all way out to even 800 yards if needed. It takes time to get the right load, but the 308 will acctually shoot any factory ammo good, it isnt picky at 100 yards , a 1″ group is common but reloading does better , I dont buy ammo I make mine. It’s time consuming but you kow what you got H335 is the best powder for the 223 IMR powder is the best for the 308, I can’t remember off the top of my head what number, I have so many guns I have to look them up myself LOLOL

Light?
This one has the heavy barrel 20″
My 223 prob weieghs in around 8.3? not sure
She is stout to say the least
Yep, 308 should kick pretty hard, bet my 223 will out shoot
the 308, Ha, identical guns, will be intresting to see which
is best
Now I have to order another Harris bipod, Warne picatinney mount and rings
I think my MTC Viper 4-16x50IRS should work fine on her
for now
Some day I will get some good glass for it
Jeez, my 223 700 has a Nikko 4-16 x44 and it works
just fine for me, although others have a hard time getting a
sight through it, I think it takes a bit more work to see what
your aiming at with a lower grade scope, just my opinion
If I had the $$$ I would get the best, spend more than the gun
itself
Anyway, yep, 168 grain seems to be the middle of the line
and thats what I will start with

Saw,

Congrats first of all.

2nd, yes, i had the Rem 700 SPS in 308. I reload and i fed it a steady diet of 168 gr HORNADY Amax and Sierra 168 gr HP bullets. I could ring steel all the way out to 600 yards with it. The gun is LIGHT though. It doesn’t weigh shit. Probably the same as your 223 but with 2-3 x’s MORE kick.

You should be good with 150 gr and 168 grain bullets. I’m sure Federal Match ammo would be tha shit in that gun. NEver shot factory ammo in mine so i don’t know what name brand is best.

Hope this helps
