Resetting Matador 2557

Too windy here in Arkansas to hunt this morning. Reset my matador to about 912-915 fps from about 900 fps to see if it helped my string even out any. It helped a lot ! Velocity hardly changed at all as pressure went through 130 bar. Now I have 50 shots with an es of 22fps. Taking out the fastest shot and the slowest shot in that 50 shots gives an es of 17. Much better . There is a sweet spot from 175 bar- 135 bar that yields an es of only 7fps. Outstanding to me anyway. There are 27 shots in that sweet spot. So now I can fill to 175 bar and go find some tree rats. 27 shots are plenty for a hunt. I hunt close to home so dont have a small tank to carry with me , just my 2 120cf steel tanks, fillable to 3400psi. They will last longer filling to 175 bar so its all good .Keep knocking em out of the trees guys!

There’s nothing to hunt in season here now. I hate to kill too many that are bred and wipe out next seasons crop. I still will take a shot at a crow though. Ben

Any news Rex ? Maybe even some pictures ?

Hey Hoot, whats shakin ? The matador was already shooting at about 875 fps, so it only took a quarter of a turn to get it to about 910-915. Sure I know where Toad Suck is, on the river west of Conway, went to school in Conway for a year in 1970. Man was that a long time ago! My matador shoots great, but changed poi up and down frequently. I knew a half inch change at 40 yd. was too much of a change for a small velocity variance, so I was puzzled. And I had a proven 3-9 leopold efr on it. STUMPED! This was causing crippling shot on squirrels when I used head shots. Last time I used it, I hit one twice somewere in the head , when I went to retreive it it was gone. Checking the gun again showed it was shooting about three quarters in. low again. Back to the drawing board. Decided the air tube must be bedded bad in the stock, causing flexing as air pressure changed. I put about .030 layers of aluminum tape in front and back of stock screw hole in the air tube channel of the stock, This raised the front and rear of the air tube ,giving no contact with stock . Stock touching airtube only about one and a half in. on each side of stock screw. Windy here yesterday but have 25 yd. range in the attic .Went through 2 air fills without any change in poi. Accuracy seems even better than before. Now Im going to have to wait till monday and order some bedding compound to make a permanent fix. Only drawback is slight tuning fork feeling when gun shoots. Sure hope this is the fix. Hate to wound game. More to come. Rex.

quote Hoot:

How many turns did it take to adjust your fps?

You know where Toad Suck is?

Hoot 😯

Do you know how fast you’re shooting Hoot?

It has been a while since I adjusted the .22 but I think it is about 20FPS per
1/4 turn out on the hammer adjustment screw….

Sounds good Hot they are definetely a fun gun to have for hunting and target shooting and criters! I eliminated another one of my pinny squirles the other day very destructive critters they can chew there way into a steel tank I think 😯

Good deal hotshot.22. Looks like you have it figured out….
