Review of Maddog Ultima Long Stock on Condor SS .22
After finally getting the issue with my baffles straight with Randy at R&L, I was able to install the stock Doug sent me. Before I get into the product itself, let me say it’s been a pleasure dealing with Doug. I had some questions before I ordered including a special request for an installed lower picatinny rail, and Doug not only answered all my questions immediately but was able to install the rail for me in such a way that I can mount a functional foregrip. He also mounted a swivel stud through the rail, which was a great idea! I spoke to Doug Wednesday and he had the stock I wanted in stock, he mounted the rail and swivel studs the next day and I got a shipping notice the same day. Ordered Wednesday night, arrived Saturday – that’s GREAT for a custom, hand-made piece. I wouldn’t expect this speed all the time, as each stock takes 4 days to dry, but rest assured if you place an order with Doug you will be very happy with his service.
The stock itself is much simpler than I expected. I thought part of the gun’s frame had to be removed, but the frame sits snugly within the stock, making the entire setup nice and solid. This also means that installation is a breeze! With the new safety on the Condor SS, there is no safety spring to deal with; installation of the safety plate is simply to fill the cutout in the stock for the older safety setup. I am not very mechanically inclined, but I had no problem removing all the stock parts and installing the new stock. The hardest part is putting the handle screw in deep within the handle and having it line up with the moving cylindrical piece in the frame. To solve this, I first put a smaller allen wrench in and turned the cylinder until the wrench dropped in farther, indicating it was lined up with the threaded part. Then it was simple as dropping the screw in and tightening everything up.
It’s lousy out so I haven’t done much testing, but the stock is very comfortable to shoot, both against the shoulder and on your hand. The former grip was terrible, especially for your thumb. I found myself resting my thumb against the quick-detach valve with the old grip, but with the thumb rest on the Maddog Ultima stock the grip is incredibly comfortable. The stock also adds a lot of stiffness to the gun. I could grip the gun as tightly as I wanted and had no indication of any frame flex. This makes sense, as the frame is sitting independently of the part being gripped so that none of the force is transferred to the frame. Very nice design, and makes a big difference in consistency!
If you’re hesitant about taking apart the gun you spent so much money for, don’t be! The instructions provided with the stock are crystal-clear, and as long as you have a long enough 5/32 allen wrench you’ll have no trouble – if I can do it, you can do it! Look how great it looks!

You mean like the Daystate Huntsman clasic and Regal? 😀 😉
I didn’t see where you might have mentioned that the hole in the stock is there to position the barrel nut so the threaded hole will be at the right angle to screw the screw in through the pistol grip. It is in the instructions that come with the stock. I also think the maddog stock makes it a better air rifle. One day air rifles will be smaller and more trimmer and easier to wield like a nice centerfire mountain rifle.
nice looking I have same stock and love it gun shoots great.
Just a small update, one feature I didn’t notice initially is that the stock is canted a few degrees so that the frame leans opposite of the primary hand. For example, if you have a right handed stock, the frame will lean ~5 degrees to the left which makes getting a clear view through the sights that much easier.
I was concerned I installed it crooked, but after shooting it I found it was beneficial, and Doug confirmed it is intentional. Just another reason to love this stock!

Just finished doing some performance testing on the stock, and I’m amazed at what a difference it’s making in my accuracy! The Wokbutt was great at fixing the shouldering issue, but the gun still wasn’t entirely comfortable to shoot especially because of the stock grip. But with the Maddog Ultima stock on it, it’s entirely comfortable in your hand and shoulders very well. It took me a few shots to shoulder the gun properly after having to accomodate the awkward stock buttplate for a while, but very soon I was getting much more consistent accuracy than I ever have with an air rifle!
Doug wasn’t kidding when he said this stock makes the Condor like a whole new platform!
