Sorry for the long wait as we had a lot of snow and the rifle I wanted to review this
scope on took longer to build than I expected.
Now, as most rifle scopes I have, use a Second Focal Plane reticle design,
this one uses a First Focal Plane reticle.
A First Focal Plane reticle means the reticle maintains millradian accuracy across the
scopes entire range of magnification, (the reticle size remains in the same ratio to
the target regardless of magnification setting). Meaning the reticle is installed towards
the front of the erector or forward of the lenses. What this means is, as you adjust
its magnification range the reticle will appear to change size, becoming thinner or
thicker depending on the magnification. So range estimation, trajectory compensation,
and zeroing can be performed on any power.
The big challenge for me was getting used to the difference in reticle size as you lower
the power to 4x. But I Do like that the millradian remains the same at any magnification,
meaning that at 14x your target measures 2.5 mils it will still measure 2.5 mils at 4x.
So for hunters using low magnification this may be a hindrance until you get used to the
difference. After getting used to the difference you may find it will be a great help.
Someday I hope to get a chance to use a larger magnification range, maybe a 6-36×56. Would
be interesting to see how it works.
This is the 4-14×44

right out of the box, looking and feeling great.
Using this Scope I must say it is well made. each click is very distinct. The lenses are
very clear. Adjusting the turrets to 1 will move the reticle 1 mil and that will stay
constant at any magnification. I did enjoy that as I zeroed at 50yds and I knew 70yds was
1.5 mils up, I was able to adjust to 1.5 on the turret and be center at any magnification
at 70yds. Yes, yes I did have to adjust for windage. LOL
The 30mm tube allows for plenty of light, Turrets are easly read. The focus and Zoom knobs
are a bit stiff but I would rather have them stiff than to lose. A larger focus wheel
would be a nice option.
As soon as Sun Optics USA comes out with a 6-24×50 FFP I will be buying one of those.
I must say I am loving this scope and its abilities.
I set this up using the *Sun Optics Adjustable Rings to align it to the barrel, and from
there zeroing was quick and painless.
**So to test the tourrets, the first thing I did after setting zero was to do a box test. So
1 shot on center the next 2 shots were, 10 up and right, 20 down, 20 left, 20 up, and the
last 1 shot was 10 down and right, did it 3 times ended up with 6 in each corner and 6 in
the center. Showing that the tracking was right on.
The one thing I do miss with this scope is the IR as I do some night competitions. Even
thou I use either a green designator or a green hunting light a light red reticle helped.
It does still work without it.
I would highly recommend this scope !!!!!

+1 I like my BSA Tactical too. It sits on my R3M/.22 ‘d like to have a slightly higher minimum power, but truthfully I tend to shoot at 14 power, so…it’s a great scope for the money
