Q:

Rise and drop of 22 compared to 25

Anybody have any input as to rise and drop of a 22 cal condor compared to the 25 cal for hunting. I know that velocity is not the primary concern with air rifles, but too much rise and drop can screw up a good hunt. I have a beaman 17 cal air pistol and man, is that accurate! But i’d never go back to 17 cal. For me 22 and up. My air pistol is fine for ratting but 22 cal for me. I think the 22 cal gives me the best of both worlds any input appreciated.

With a Condor, pellet drop between calibers is relatively the same.

If you can push a .25 to the same velocity as a .22, the .25 will shoot flatter in my experience with a similar type pellet.

I shoot 27.8 grain Benjiman domes out of my .25, at roughly 980-1000fps sometimes a little hotter depending on the bottle pressure.
30 yard zero, 8.5″ drop at 100 yards.
On a calm day, these shoot sub-MOA. On a windy day, groups don’t get noticably worse until around 60 yards but they still seem to find their mark.

With a 31gr Kodiak at 960fps, same zero drop is 10.5″ at 100 yards.

With everybodys favorite JSB Kings, my rifle drops them around 9″ at 100 yards but accuracy just isnt what I want at that range. Not sure why, they shoot very well for everyone else.

In .22 caliber shooting kodiaks at 980fps, same zero drop is 11″. You would think it would shoot flatter, but it wont.

This is from actual shooting results, not what chairgun said they would do.
I have no use for a .22 condor these days. 😉
2300 ft elevation if that makes any difference.

For air guns you tend to have to stay subsonic to stay accurate. In so its normally the ballistic coefficient that governs drop. Normally the weighty pellets have a higher ballistic coefficient. You tend to get heaver pellets for bigger bore. So for least drop you are after .25

Hey Joe, download this and mess with all the variables, I think this would help.
