RL extreme valve
Going to get a extreme valve for my .257 barrel and was wanting to know if I can use my QCTH with it?

Hi Doug!
Looks like the “rim” of your top hats are in a fixed position, is that correct? Did you just use a stock valve for positioning and stay with that as your fixed measurement? Just trying to understand how the AF valve works, still. Total Noob to AF guns.
Thanks, Rick
Yes it is.
Nice! Is the valve I have similar to your .257/.308 valve? I haven’t been able to get out and shoot yet. Had one kid sick last weekend and another this weekend. Took next Friday off from work to go shooting.
Just because your chrony gives you a number doesn’t mean it’s right.
My valve makes on average 100 fps more than a R&L. That is for the .25/.257 valve. The hole in a stock type valve is .215″-.217″. Mine is .260″. The R&L stem will drop inside the hole of mine. Yesterday I talked to a guy that just got his setup yesterday. He did a few shots to get numbers. Then he texted me later that he blew all the centers out of the baffles in his R&L shroud.
I gave Randy permission and the drawings to produce and sell my valve. He has still yet to get his machinist to finish making them.
Even if you had one of my valves you would only be getting 1000-1030 fps with 74 gr. You also need a 115 gram hammer to make it work at its best. I have numerous people running my setup in 28″ barrel. I know of 2 that had the R&L before mine and that’s how I know the difference in fps.
Then there is my .257/.308 valve. That is what my .257 uses. It requires the barrel to be machined .374″ at the breech. It has a .282″ hole in the stem with massive ports. With 4000 psi it will shoot 93.5gr at 1085 fps.
Here is a .308 version where a .25 top hat fits in the stem.
.308 shoots 112 gr at 1000 fps with 32″ barrel or 158 gr at 900 fps.
I wonder if my valve is slightly different it was one of the first round of valves produced. I had to wait weeks for testing to complete and I was hounding Randy for weeks about it’s final product coming to market. Maybe the valve spring is lighter, or porting different. I’m going to disassemble it and mic it for specs. I’m very curious now.

My crony was generating the fps, I’m only reporting my experience. I haven’t ported valve or modified any thing on it. velocity at muzzle 1st round 3200 PS fill. 100 gr hammer, 28 in TJs barrel, TT spring. I’m going to try a video once work slows down.

I think you need to check your numbers. If your lucky you might be getting 850fps.
1040 fps with 88 gr is 211 fpe. That is what my gun makes with a 32″ barrel and a real .257 valve that is a .308 valve made to fit a .374″ breech. The hole in my stem is .280″ compared to .217″ for extreme.

How many PSI are you using to get that SPEED with that heavy bullet????.I have one i DON’T use anymore since getting Doug’s and find it hard to believe you getting that speed……Even 4000 psi wouldn’t make it for ME ….Carl
My rl valve sends 88 grain spitzers out at 1040 fps which = like 140 fpe. About the same as a .32 cal powder burner pistol. It is a big jump over stock, but only if used with heavy hammer spring to create the valve dwell time it needs. Also a long barrel is a must.

I just talked to RL about the extreme valve for my .357 and he said he does not have a valve that will fit the 357 barrel. My understanding is the top hat size determines the barrel caliber it will fit.
Does the extreme valve require a heavier hammer and spring to operate? I have been looking at the 32 inched .257 barrel from r and l but wonder if a 9mm barrel kit would also work with this valve. I wanna save up the texan or find ways to make my stock condor shoot bigbore home casted bullets. I am open to suggestions.
Can this extreme valve work for 9mm condor kits? I hope some .457 kit comes for the condor or something like this
Yes and you would be right back where you are now. Extreme valve is a stock valve that has a new stem with 3 long ports. I think the inside might be opened up a little where the seal is.
It will make a little more power then you have now. You can only squeeze so much out of the small stock valve. You have to start over and go bigger.

Yes it is set so there is not gap in the breech when closed
