Rubber matts for noise control
Some one ask me about rubber mats or I ask someone , I forgot which way it went,
I use the rubber matts buy them at Tractor Supply on sale for 20 bucks 4×6 foot sheet, Pretty hard to cut with a razor knife, Oh also pretty heavey I say a sheet weighs about 35 – 40 LBS . I use it to try and stop the pop or the noise from the pellet hitting the 4×18 inch hard boards I have set around the yard as feeders and targets, Helps a little with the noise and a lot at not destroying my wood back stops, My photo bucket is screwed or I would get a photo up. oops let me try this. See if this works .
I would not use them with a gun shooting under 800 FPS after all they are rubber mats,
I have never had a bounce back but some hollow point pellets did not penetrate the rubber, ( shot with short Mutant)
My 22 and 25 Crickets go through and stop just into the wood. 18 and 25gr JSB at about 940 FPS.

I got some new and better pictures but photo bucket took me 20 minutes to post these two,
Oh you can use just one long screw in the middle of the matt to hold it up, Remove it easy to make moving the back stops around easer and lighter, Some are portable

Yes, I like the idea on the target zone, I bet there are all sorts of targets and things to shoot. I like to shoot string trimmer line like the .105″ line I have here.
I clamp it in my small portable pellet trap and cut it off in length. Start about 6″ length and cut say like half inch at a time. Its pretty cheap and pretty tricky 🙂

Yea I did have a few metal targets hanging from ropes in my evergreen trees, I painted them orange but the twang was to loud for my liking, It also scared birds away, Not good for me. As I am a bird lover, (good ones only)….
I think it would be neat to have a target site area so everyone could put up there ideals on targets,
I bet people have some pretty cool and fancy and basic targets we could all learn from.
Call it the TARGET ZONE, Even cool store bought ones would be allowed,
It would also show you do not need 50 yards to own a PCP gun…..Hint , hint , To the site owners

Now you can tell my targets are also my feed trays, I have four of these spread around my yard, from 48 yards down to 28 yards, I buy about 100 lbs of feed a month (26 dollars) and place on the feeders every day, Or try to, Noise is not a big problem for me I just want to stay in the shadows.
From time to time I see a kid in the ally or street with a pellet gun or BB gun,

You ever try shooting your target in front of chains hanging down?
Say like a smaller chain like 1/4” and make them about the same length as your target. They will knock down the pellet and absorb the impact to where it hits the backing a lot less forceful…
I guess I have been lucky, my welding and mechanical skills allow me to build a bullet trap that is just awesome, least for me anyway. It is loud as it is, I have nothing to it to silence the impact. That is not an issue here, thank goodness 🙂
Just something to think about anyway.
One other thing that makes an awesome backing to put up targets and shoot at, is the cardboard bails that they compress and strap together really nice and tight. Like at wally world and some grocery stores.
They are big and heavy, I have shot 300 magnum rounds at it and no pass through. Guess you would get through it eventually shooting in the same place over and over… Which I can tack up targets over a wide area.
We have this at our ranch, it was wrapped in the clear packing wrap to help weather better. Then we even stack cut fire wood behind that to just ensure that if a round ever did get through… We shoot everything at this bail…
Then we built a angled roof and sun shade, rain blocker sort of thing over it. Setup a 2×6 frame edge wise looking toward the bullet travel, to staple targets to and if all you ever did was air rifles and rim fire, you would never shoot it up. Now it would not be a portable backing; but its a good setup. For a limited space and close quarters sort of backyard range whatever 🙂
Just something else to think on…
Went and measured it for some other site, Its 3/4 inch thick , Now that’s with a ruler not calipers ,
There is still a slap when the pellet hits but not as much, I may see if I can cut come circles out for my spinning targets as they really make a lot of noise ,

Back to the target zone,
The old Texas hard shell pecans are fun to shoot, Set them on wood or a 12 gauge shot gun shell(spent) and shoot it off , they explode
and feed the birds. A large washer with a hole in it, shoot through the hole and the washer never moves, Tack the washer on a chain or steal rod,
That’s about as far as my welding goes , I can tack,
