Q:

Rumor about a new .25

Talking with Randy at AiA, he’s got a .25 version of his Corsair in the works. With the bullets being much lighter than the .308 version, it should be a screamer with a lot less pressure. The new .308 Cosair+ shoots 43 grain round balls over 1200 fps.
He wants it to have a couple hammer springs for versatility.
I don’t think it will be called a Corsair.

.223? with 4000psi+ fills you could achieve decent shot count at 100 yards. 😈 😈 😈

And more .50 + bores. For big game seems logical.

IT would be an improvement for sure….lol

And yeah, you might not have any real luck with the 12 fpe/6.5 cal thingy..lol

The only guy i know making any airguns with odd calibers is Beaumont. he actually makes a 6.5 cal.

Seriously though, nothing wrong with the 25 cal at all. Its great. I personally would just like to see something other than 25-308-45 cal airguns.

Interesting, I wonder If I can pursuade one of the barrel companies in the UK that I want a 6.5mm bore barrel and that I’m only going to shoot at under 12 ft/lbs 🙂 🙂

Maybe casting bullets for my .25 would be a good enough improvement over diabolo pellets.

Dave,

I don’t know the EXACT LEAD #’s in 6.5 or 7mm vs a .25. But the COPPER PB bullets in 6.5 and 7mm pretty much have it going on when it comes to BC. Only the bigger and HEAVIER calibers have higher BC #s but of course that means MORE RECOIL.

But in Copper, a 6.5 cal 140 gr A,max has a BC of about .550. A 150 gr 30 cal Amax has a bc of about .435 or so. A 117 gr .25 cal SST bullet is about .390 or so. But that weight is heavy for the .25 cal. and is at about the end of the line for the caliber. Lead bullets or CAST bullet BC’s wont be as high as the copper PB versions but they will still be VERY HIGH for cast lead per caliber.

But aside from that, ANY cast TRUE BULLET will have a higher BC than any Diablo styled pellet per caliber. So a 257 cal 100 gr cast RN or Spitzer will simply have a higher BC than the lowly 251 cal 30 gr Kodiak pellet…..lol.

I have a .22 BSA that is tweaked and shoots Kodak 21.1 grain pellets over 1200 fps with 2500 psi. I don’t see a downside to a .25 Corsair(or whatever it gets called). It will have a 28″ barrel as a standard.
The other thing Randy’s trying to get done is a muzzle loader dump rifle built so it looks like a pb.

Really? True, not the best idea to be prying and pulling on your own personal gun.

But it was put together so it must be able to come apart 🙂

How much better is the BC of the 6.5-7mm bullets when compared to a .25? A worthwhile venture into getting a new barrel?

Ohhhhhhhhhh DAVE, i know how. You just can’t take the Corsair apart. Not too many folks know that about the Corsair. Not a very smart idea but whatever. I think i know how it comes apart but i don’t wanna use my gun as a guinea pig

Just buy a barrel blank from LW, or cheaper from Green mountain.

Then take it to a machinist and get it profiled for your gun, also get the bolt modified.

Not too hard really, and very easy if you already have the tools yourself.

GEEZ, that sounds a LOT like Jack Haley’s NEW 257 gun. The SCANDELOUS line: http://www.southernairgunconversion.com/

I know it takes tooling and such to come out with NEW calibers but boy, i sure would LOVE for someone to make a 6.5mm/.264″ cal airgun. Between that and the 7mm bullets, they have the highest BC’s. Puts the 308 and 25 bullets to shame. OH WELL! I would love to turn my Corsair into a 6.5mm and cast for it.

It may well be shooting 43gr. round balls at 1200fps but that’s in a .308 bore barrel which is much more efficient than a .25 barrel.

A .308 barrel has 0.0745 square inches of area where as a .25 barrel has 0.0491. This means that the .25 barrel has 34% less area for the air to act upon.

So in theory, just putting a .25 barrel on that 1200fps .308, it would shoot a pellet at 780fps.

However with the smaller bore of the .25, the pressure stays higher for longer because there is less volume to expand into.

Interesting thoughts on the subject anyway, got to stop surfing the forum and carry on with preparing for my engineering exam 🙁
