Rust Prevention
I bought a used AF 1/4″ male BSPP adapter. It had quite a few rusty spots on the outside and inside. So I got this Naval Jelly to remove all the rust along with any coating on the surface. The question is what I should do to prevent rusting? Since this part is used to fill an air tank, I’d like to keep it rust free but at the meantime I don’t want any other coating materials getting into the tank if they are not supposed to. Right now I just coat the whole thing with a thin layer of air tool oil. Thanks.

I would have it powder coated then you never have to worry a bought it

Why stop the rusting at all?
You are just seeing the beginning of a very old preservatin technic called “browning”.
It was used to preserve Colonial firearms such as the Kentucky Longrifle. This process was not applied to all of them, many were kept to a high polish “in the white”, but the process is quite attractive if done correctly.

How would this be as a PCP gun??!!!!
It will help a little, but bluing is no substitute for a rust inhibitor or protectant. Mainly it’s for looks.
Thanks for the silicon tips. As far as the bluing is concerned, I have a bottle of Birchwood-Casey Perma Blue® Liquid Gun Blue handy. Can I use it? From my reading of Wikipedia, it seems to suggest that “cold bluing” doesn’t really help rust prevention.
Mine was the same way when I got it. I cleaned the rust off and re-blued with Oxpho-Blue and kept it covered in silicone.
If you get some divers silicon and rub it in really good it will keep the rust away.
Rub it down occasionally to keep it rust free.
Divers silicon is safe for use with PCP’s.
