Q:

Safety catch upgrade

Hi,

been working on a new safety catch over the last few days, done a few different styles so far but heres a pic of one i’m settled with.

feels realy good as there is little or no over reach and the action is now a possitive click.
next thing is to replace the original rod with a stainless steel one with a larger diameter, maybe some hex bar pollished so it rides better.

any thoughts, other examples or suggestions welcome.

Does the spring that rides on the safety release rod possibly cause any binding? Would a flat shim in that area help or just put more pressure on the release rod? I thought a square rod or one with a flat surface at the spring would help. Hey, 2 cents ain’t worth much anymore.

good tip there thanks, better to bend than hex bar!. limmited to a file, dremel and emery cloth at the momment so not good until i get my other tools set up.
the space is about just right as measured to my finger but i’ve done three blanks now using more of the safety gaurd to tuck it in.

As long as you have ample finger room between the trigger and release, I like it.

I actually made one from a coathanger rod and it worked pretty good.
