Q:

SCBA tank from Best Fittings

My 4500psi, 45 minute SCBA tank has reached its 15 year lifespan and my 60 minute tank has a couple of years left.

I can buy a 60 minute tank, without the valve, from Joe at AirTanksForSale.com for $499. I have checked best fittings and they seem to offer a 60 minute tank that is cheaper than what Joe sells.

Has anybody, in the US, bought a SCBA tank from Best Fittings and if so, what was the shipping cost? Are the Best Fittings tanks DOT approved?

I’m trying to get stuff lined up for the AOA shoot this fall and this air gun bullshit is quickly getting out of hand! 😯

I bought my two 45 minute SCBA tanks with 13 years left on them for $200 each. A doctor out in CA is into airguns and buys them as the fire departments get new ones in donations and grants in large lots and then resells them for the profit. He advertises when he gets them on the GTA forum. Mine are both 2007 tanks in excellent shape.

Later on my local firehouse told me they often just drill a hole in the tanks as they get new ones and they usually have at least 7-8 years left on them so they could put several aside if I wanted them for free. I have since picked up a shoebox and stopped filling over there but it may be an inexpensive way into a few tanks.

Dräger tanks are of a high quality so they will easily live those twenty years. I have a Dräger CF 8liter tank – or 488 cu inch – and i love it! Weighs nothing and gives plenty of fills.
You’re not living under the impression our European tanks are of a lesser quality than those made in US are you ?? Shame on you …

A good question. I have no idea .

That must be why the drager tanks say they are are good for 20 years.

BF is a bona fide dealer though. Superb customer service, friendly people and fast delivery at reasonable freight. A good source for any Airgunners needs.
The DOT / CE is just plain stupid indeed.

OG: Shoot off an email to best fittings and ask. However I don’t think they are DOT-approved. I bought a tank from them some years back and it was CE-approved but not DOT. Stupid system this is, – why would they need two different certifications…….. 🙄
