Scope adjustments

Someone had a post a few days ago about how often a scope needs adjustment to rezero. Well I did a little experiment and this is what I found out. The setup I used is a Leaper’s 3-9×40, Accushot rings, and AF Talon.

I set a target up at 40 yards Tuesday afternoon to check my zero for the test. It was shooting just a little high of dead center. So for the next four days I took my rifle out at about the same time each day and checked my POI. Each day was different but the wind was calm each time I shot. My Talon was kept in my basement each night which was 65+or- a few degrees.

When I checked my zero in it was about 45 degrees and sunny outside. The next day(Wednesday) it was 25 degrees with clouds and my POI had the same elevation but about .25 inches to the right. Day two was warmer again at around 50 degrees with it getting dark, my POI was just slightly to the left maybe .1 inches. Day three it was 35 degrees with some sun and clouds, my POI was a little to the right again(less than .25 inches). Today it was around 30 degrees with clouds and snow coming down and my POI was less than .25 inches to the left.

So for the most part it looks like it holds it zero well. I think the POI moving left and right might be a slight breeze that I did not see or feel. For hunting squirrels, starlings, or whatever at 50 yards and maybe a little further I should be ok. If I want to shoot out bulls at 100yards I will need to adjust my scope.
