Q:

Scope and chrony questions.

I am currently using a centerpoint 3-9×40 scope on my .22 condor.
This scope came with my springer.
I am looking to upgrade. Want a more powerful scope.
Do I need to purchace an “air rifle scope” or will any scope be ok?
I know that on a springer it has to be a scope for an air rifle because of the recoil.
Any sugestions on good mid range scope. Bang for the buck.

I also want to get a chrony, dont want to spend too much money.
I just need it to find the sweet spot for a couple of different pellets.
On the other hand I don’t want junk either. Mid range will be fine.
Any sugestions on a chrony.

Thanks.

For the chrony, try the combro unit. I wish I would of known about these before me and my friend pitched in and bought a regular one.

Well it must of been a fair while ago ‘cos I’ve been banging on about the Combro for ages!! :whoop:

took your advice and ordered one 2 1/2 weeks ago at the same time as another forum member. he got his last week- I am still waiting. sent Robin an email tonight to see if he can track my wayward order( shipped airmail on 10 Dec,) hoping for the best and if works as advertised, i will be selling my Shooting Chrony F1( works fine, 4 months old with box and all paperwork) for $65 shipped. obviously my experience with Shooting Chrony has been different than Steve’s. i just like the portability aspect of the Combro. as for scopes, unless you are a competition shooter OR REALLYserious plinker, i have had very good experience with Centerpoint 4x16x40 scopes- good bang for the buck with clear optics and on a PCP, recoil isn’t an issue.

The Hawke scope look really good, especially with the half mil dot reticle.

The shooting chrony company SUCKS! Their products register many errors. I think that it is because the sensors are not recessed enough.

I am so very pleased with my Competition Electronics Pro Chrono Digital chronograph. I haven’t hany errors with it! 😀 I love that it will read up to 99 shots per string. So much better than that shooting chrony crap.

How do you mount the Combro to a Talon SS or a barrel with an LDC?

If you’ll go back to “General discussion” and look down about 7 topics from the one you posted..you’ll find a lengthy discussion on chrony…”search” is also a wonderful way to find information on just about about any subject 😆 😆

Hotrod,

First, it des not need to be an airgun scope, your Condor will not shake it apart like a springer will.

You need to ask yourself if you need all the bells and whistles like side focus and illuminated reticles. These things cost big bucks on the top of the line scopes, on the cheaper scopes, the makers have to scrimp on other things like lense quality to make a inexpensive scope with illuminated reticles and side focus.

Pick a price your comfortable with and see who gives the best bargain. A lot of guys here prefer the Hawke scopes others say they are just a rebadged chinese scope. But you have to spend more money to get past the Chinese glass.

If you can live with fixed power, I would recommend either the SWFA, 10 power it has the paralax adjustment where the power ring on a varible scope usually is. It has no illuminated reticle and seems to be a good scope, Condor 07 has one, and he really knows his scopes. The Millet is also a good scope in the 10 power, Hoot has one of these and likes it.

I like Leupolds personally, but they are expensive and others can offer more for a lessor price for what the airgunner needs.

Read the reviews on the scope your interested in, see about things like clarity and tracking.

On the Chrony, I have a red chrony, it is simple and was a little over $100.00. Seems to do what I need, if your going to use it inside, you will need to buy or fabricate a lighting system for it. Chrony has several models, and they give price excalating features, decide what you need it to do and then buy what you want.
