Scope choice for .223?
Should get my “new to me” Savage 110FP .223 by weeks end and am researching scopes for it. Unfortunately my business is always slower this time of year so putting a proper scope on it will have to wait until May or so.
With keeping inside of my self-imposed budget of $200.00-$400.00 this is what interests me so far:
Millett 4-16×50 Tactical 30mm
Leatherwood 4-16×50 Uni-Dial
Bushnell 5-15×40 Elite 3200
BSA 6-24×44 Stealth Tactical
I prefer sidewheel focus and a high magnification of around 16-24x for ranging, though I find most of shooting to be with my scopes set at around 10-12x.
My intention for this gun is for it be to a long-range predator gun (200-400yds.) mostly shot from the prone position from a bipod as it will be a little heavier than I like in a field gun since it weighs 8-1/2 lbs empty with no scope, sling or bipod. I’m guessing it will end up around 12 lbs. ready-to-shoot.
Anyone have any specific experience with any of these directly? If not, what have you had in this price range and close to these in specs that have liked?
I appreciate any input given!

Given those choices, I would go with the Bushnell, as those Elites are pretty nice scopes. I have a Bushnell 4-12x on my .223 (a Sportsview, I believe), and it works great. I also have a Bushnell Legend 3-9x on my .270, and for a $100 scope, it is fantastic. Clear as a bell, holds zero, and easy to adjust. One other brand I might suggest that is kind of up and coming is Mueller. I have one of their tactical scopes without the lighted reticle in 8-32X for shooting ground squirrels with my .204. Good scope for $200 or so. They are beginning to get a bit of a following, especially with varminters. Worth checking out.
Hope this helps,
Chris
