Scope Rings
Does the make of scope rings make any difference . I was thinking of ordering high scope rings for my condor and was advised to go for BKL or the likes which are expensive .Leapers and center point are one fourth the cost . Need advice on this and also if I should go for two rings or one piece mount .

07condor: oh man, that GAU-8 is AWESOME!! Ive been privilaged to have recieved support from A-10’s during Iraq. its so weird- that burb/fart sound they make… but oh man, watching armor disintegrate IS FUCKING AWESOME!! i did fire the M-60, it was just a familiarization class though, as we dont use it anymore…except the SEALs… ive messed mostly with the M240G, the M249 SAW, and the M-2 .50 cal. also the 25mm bushmaster when i was in the Army.
x2 on the BKL. you cant go wrong there. but my anal retentive ass will still lap those rings.
id say bkl, with the wider margin for error, and in a 1 piece configuration unless it isnt going on an AF gun, that extra support goes a long way…

true…but how many times do we go through scopes…esspecially for airguns? of course, im not saying go out and getting some really really cheap set of rings, but you can definatly improve some cheaper rings by lapping them. and $45-$50 w/rings and lapping kit compared to around the same price for pricier (a word?!) rings that may or may not also need to be lapped. plus, once you have the kit- you can do multiple rings, for airguns or real steel…it was just a thought.
Once you lap a set of rings, they’re pretty much married to that rifle. So check alignment first, then lap only if they’re out of alignment.
The alignment tool adds more $$$$ to the total cost, just buy good quality rings and save some $$$.

or you could just lap the rings…of course the lapping kit is another $30… just my 2 cents worth. 😛
IMHO-You take your chances with Centerpoint/LeapersUTG, they’re really cheap and work-I use set a of 30mm UTG’s on my Diana 34P. Good chance they’ll cut some nasty rings into your scope, or a better chance of being canted to the right or left, maybe not-just the price paid for using really cheap rings.
My money would go on the BKL’s which are bargain priced for the high quality rings they are-which are much less likely to cut rings into your scope or cant to the left or right . I still have seller’s remorse, having sold my BKL’s to Pablouk.
Another thing BKL has over lesser priced rings is the quality of the screws/bolts used. BKL uses high quality cap and clamps screws that allen wrenches fit tight as they should. My UTG’s have sloppy socket screws that the allen wrench wobbles and sometimes lock into the screw, damaging the wrench and any other screw that wrench is used with.
High quality rings cost in the neighbor hood of 200 $, + or – 75 $ or so. Which would be overkill for Air gun purposes, but they’re less likely to damage a scope costing 10x the rings cost. A small price to protect high quality scopes.
If you’re using a 100 $ or less scope, 10 $ rings are all you’ll ever need, but if you’re using a medium priced scope and want to maintain the best resale value, use the BKL’s as I said IMHO
One or Two piece ring sets work just fine on a condor.

Been a long time since I’ve heard a GAU-8 and it does sound like a long fart.
So much powder comes out those barrels it can choke an engine if the pilot holds the trigger too long.
