Q:

Scope rings for Edgun?

I was wondering what brand of rings you’re trusting to use on your Edgun rail. I’ve researched
the available Picatinny rings. But there’s also many offerings in Weaver/Picatinny combinations. Are there any problems with going with Weaver/Picatinny combinations?
I realize cheap can do the job and high-end rings are usually best. I’m not eliminating either.
So your input really would be appreciated.

Another question concerns the height of the rings. I have two scopes that would need
.690 inches and .570 inches to be flush with the rail (rather than the shroud). So answers
to my question about Weaver/Picatinny combos would then open up other possible ring
heights than what I’ve found on Picatinny-only rings.

Close-bell-to-rail/barrel isn’t a fixed requirement for me, since I haven’t finished mulling
over the fact that higher mounts are an advantage for shooting long-range (70-110 yards)
at higher magnification (16?–24–32X). I’d just like to have a look at other than .4, .75,
1.0, 1.+ inch ring heights. I guess I’d like to see more graduated increments, as in 0.1 inches
instead of .25 inches. Some ring specs just give the low/med/high description without specific inch measurements.

Again, you’re feedback will be very much appreciated. I’ve shot one pellet on my Edgun .22 long, but can’t scope it yet, obviously, without rings.

I know – fits me perfectly as I only hunt… mostly between 50-120.

At, lets say 30 m/y, parallax would be minimal anyway… not enough to be outside of kill zone.

Edit: I actually checked the figures in chairgun and at 30m the parallax error is up to 1cm if focused to 50m – thats not a lot.

Parallax adjustment on this one is 50 to infinity.

I just bought new rings AND a new scope 🙂 cant wait to get it mounted…

rings: Vortex Precision Matched Rings-30mm (High)
scope: Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50 FFP

finally true mil/half-mil dot at all magnifications + target turrets

Air rifle or not, I personally use either ARMS #22 throw lever rings(heights are listed)

http://www.armsmounts.com/default.asp?mode=products&sub=rings

OR

Larue QD lever mounts(again heights are listed)

Either of these will allow you take it off and return it with VERY little movement of POI.

I think the difference between weaver and picatinny is next to nothing.

The only thing I have heard is that extended fixed rail items (a part that has rail attachments at fixed distances greater than say 6″) will have issues if it was made for weaver and is installed on a picatinny rail system.

Or something like that. 😀

Here is something more precise…

quote :

What are the differences between the “Picatinny” and the “Weaver” systems? The profile of the two systems is virtually identical. Depending on the quality of the machining done by the manufacturer, the two systems should be indistinguishable from the profile. The key difference lies in the placement of the recoil grooves and with width of the grooves. MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny) grooves are .206” wide and have a center-to-center width of .394”. The placement of these grooves has to be consistent in order for it to be a true “Picatinny” MIL-STD system. Weaver systems have a .180” width of recoil groove and are not necessarily consistent in a center-to-center measurement from one groove to the next. In many instances, a Weaver system has a specific application that it is machined for, so interchangeability is not necessarily an issue. A MIL-STD-1913 system must adhere to the specifications listed above in order for it to be considered MIL-STD, since the military desires uniformity in the recoil grooves to allow for different systems to be mounted on the weapon with no concern for compatibility.

Now, what does this mean to you? Boiled down, it means that accessories designed for a Weaver system will, in most cases, fit on a “Picatinny” system. The reverse, however, is probably not the case. Due to the larger recoil groove, “Picatinny” accessories will not fit a Weaver system. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule, but for a good rule-of-thumb, “Picatinny” won’t fit Weaver, but Weaver will fit “Picatinny”.

I’m picking up that the answer to my question
about whether Weaver rings are all right for
the Edgun rail is– Yes. The Warne, Burris, and
Leupold rings are Weaver. Most of my hesitation
is cleared up.

Thanks.

I run Leupold QR rings on my USFT. I can take the scope off the rifle and it returns to zero every time it is replaced.

Tied for third place at the 2012 AAFTA Nationals… 😉

I trust the Warne Maxima fixed rings. Over 20k pellets on my Ed 22 long and they have never moved or POI shift. I run med height and shoot out to little over 200 for fun. Zeroed normally at 19 and 42 with 1/2″ kill zone.

Don’t get me started on Burris Signature rings. Just buy them and be amazed of the things it can do. I only wish Burris would make more inserts for the 30mm rings.

I got Burris Signature Zee Medium for a Hawke Tac 30 6.5-20x. I like the fact that they have plastic inserts that prevent clamp marks on your scope, and the adjustable offset rings to optically center the scope. Good luck on your rings decision!
