Q:

screwed

I’m thinking it would be very nice to set up a shroud with threads, not 1/2″ threads but full in the frame 1″ threads directley machined or tapped into the frame, would reduce overall length with a 24″ barrel, screw on, screw off.
1″ dia. would make it less likely to be classified as a silencer.
Any comments ??????

I can’t do this but if I had the tools and money (THE biggest IF in recorded history) I would buy a condor frame from air force and cut it and tig weld it to the front of another condor frame. You’d have to do it very nice and fine sand it, then send it in to be anodized again then you could build the suppressor inside the frame like the talon guys do. Only drawback I see is the length.

I do know Air Force has tried a couple of times to get a design passed be the NFA firearms technology branch but got shot down every time.
ATF is fully aware of moderators/suppressors but because a lot of big company’s currently sell them they are looking the other way.
the people that really have to worry are the small guys it really doesn’t matter if you make it ½x20 thread they are still classified as a suppressor the only way to even have a fighting chance is to make it out of delrin not aluminum or any type of steal so you can at least say it wont handle the pressure of a firearm and will blow up or shoot right off the gun.
I have been a class 3 gunsmith and dealer for many years so I have seen pretty much every thing the morons at ATF can pull out of there ass and believe me they hire some of the most incompetent people to try to arrest people especially in the Technology Branch for an example one of the guys I talked to a bought a class 3 matter stated the only training he had was threw the army as a armorer well those guys are trained to replace small parts they are not gunsmiths and couldn’t even replace a barrel if there life depended on it.
I am working on a design right know maybe they will approve it Air Force told me if I can get an approved design they would sit down and see if we could work a deal so we will see if they were blowing smoke up my you know where ill keep you guys in the loop.

Portable Grinder or Cuttin’ Torch.
Geez, do I have to answer all the tough questions? 😆

Just be careful you don’t fuck up the crown!

How would you take your gun apart for servicing if you weld things to it?

what if you weld it to the barrel of your airforce? is it completely leagal then

Bingo. You can’t take it on or off. The key to AF immunity is that it’s built into the gun. If you can take it off and somehow use it on a powderburner, even for 1 shot, you’re scrwed. Best not to wander too far from the original design.

Nah… width has nothing to do with it… if it reduces the report, it’s a silencer. Plus, the “screw on / screw off” feature wouldn’t help at all if you got in a jam with a motivated cop and/or DA… it just makes it resemble a “classic” silencer even more.

That said, it brings to mind a question I’ve had for a while now…

Does anyone know anyone who’s ever been sweated by the cops for having a shroud on their AF air-gun? Or any other air-gun for that matter.

If so, how’d it turn out?

Above is a 1-1/16 – 32 tap from MSC. It’s close to $75 though.
The ID of the frame is a hair over 1″ and varies.

Also, keep in mind the frame is anodized. Although thin, it is still a very hard layer and will wear out your tap quickly.

Also, here’s an interesting link about threads:

Start building… 🙂

1 3/64″ tap all kinds of sizes avail.
What size would make good threads in the 1″ i.d. of the frame ?
Also does any one have a scrap frame to experiment with ????

I guess the hardest part would be indexing everything straight !
I am going to the hardware store on Sat. with my calipers, that is if it’s raining otherwise gotta go do so work and make some money.
I did a little search on the web, there is all kinds of different sizes of taps, just not to sure of trying to thread the frame because of the thin wall of it.

You’d have to do 1-1/16 or 1-1/8 threads.
They’d have to be very fine threads, so a tap might be pricey.
You could turn it in a lathe, but you would have a bitch of a time trying to get the whole frame in your lathe, and centered. My lathe wouldn’t be even close to big enough.
Your threads would have to be perfect, or close enough a shoulder would pull it up square.

Diameter don’t mean shit on how it’s classified though.

If you got enough time and money, you can do just about anything. Give it a whirl! Keep up with the ideas too. It doesn’t cost anything to come up with a good idea.

How about making a longer front bushing with say, 3/4″ OD fine threads on the front of it? Then your shroud would extend down in the tube and attach down there. This might end up making the area too small inside though. Just a thought… I hope you can see what I’m getting at.

good idea
maybe and insert in the tip of frame with that threading and then the 1 inch shroud into that would be sweet
