Q:

Scuba tank

What can I expect to pay for a new aluminum 80 tank w/k valve?
I got a guy on Craigs list selling 2 used for 50.00 each but they need “hydro and visual” He said he would refund my money if it fails.
Is this a deal?

rexx; Spend a bit more money and buy a tank with over a 3,000 psi rating. Ensure it’s in HYDRO. A visual inspection is not expensive but it is required every year.

The reason for the higher pressure tank is that you’ll get very few fills out of a 3,000 psi tank. And the dive shops usually charge the full amount to top off a slightly under filled tank. Well, at least in San Diego. AKULA

From my own experience.

I got 80cf 3000psi tank on CL for 75 bux with current hydro and visual.

Took it to my local shop and they would not fill it. There is loooong list of tanks that are considered not safe. They could be Hydro tested and inspected, but most of the shops will not fill them.

so I took it back to the guy who sold it to me and he was nice enough to refund me.

and I purchase new tank from my local shop for $150. And they always fill it up to 3300-3400psi 😉

They didn’t charge me for topping off my tank when I brought it back to them at 2500psi. LOL.

Tel him he has to go with you for the tests. that way you can get your money back on the spot. That way he will have to pay the test fee if failed. 😉
