Q:

Scuba tank vs. Hill pump

I just received a brand new Hill pump and after assemlby, couldn’t believe the effort it took to top off my tank from 2500 to 3000. I am now considering selling the pump and going the scuba route but know nothing about it.
Does anyone have a quick rundown of:
steel tanks vs. aluminum
size and pressure of tanks and how many pcp fills (top offs) per scuba fill
different types of valves (k-valve,…)

anything else I would need to know…

I already contacted a scuba shop about cost of fills and cost of hydro ($50, sound right?).
Thanks

I bought two brand new ones from a dive shop for $149 each filled.
I use both one for the fill and the second for top offs. It depends what your fill pressure is , I do not care about 3000 psi fills. If you look most guys say the preform best around 2500-2700 psi. I fill to about 2500 psi all the time. I cannot giv you a number but I can shoot 4 or 5 tins before filling both tanks. By the way my dive shop charges me a whopping $4 to top off my tanks (each). So if a dive shop is near (5 minutes for me) I just sold my pump I have not used it more than maybe 3 times, PUMPING SUCKS!

If it’s free it would way be worth it. What’s the manufacture date of the tank?

Thanks guys. I actually have a friend who will give me his aluminum scuba tank (needs to be hydro) but I am starting to think it may not worth it.

X2, get the 4350 psi tank(or the 300 bar tank as we call it here)
A scuba tank that only holds 3000psi is shite and will only give a few fills….

Make sure you know FOR SURE what the shop will fill to. Then buy acording to that. The 106 Cu. Ft./4350 Psi tank offers more fills than any other. It’s carbon wrapped alu. and has a 15 yr. service life. You will need an adaptor. Depending on your portability needs, you might consider a Nitrogen tank rental from an industrial gas supply store. Either way, your going to outlay $500 or more, unless you get an 80/3000 alu. tank.
