Setting Scope with adjustable rings ???
mounted scope on rifle and had to use a lot of my vertical adjustment just to zero. Plan on shooting some distance so I ordered a set of Burris Zee signature adjustable rings. Question is this, Why set the scope turrets to the middle of their adjustments and then use the adjustable mounts to get close. I think I should set the vertical turret near the bottom, the right left to the middle of it’s adjustment and then get close with the scope rings. That would give me the full turret range on the vertical. Hope I explained that enough for someone to chime in. Would this work or bad idea??

Sometimes you might want to shoot close up, then you will have to adjust down to do such. If you set it up with zero at say 50 yards and the scope is adjusted all the way down, you have no more room to adjust. Also, when the scope is adjusted to the limits, the inner tube is more likely to shift around, thus changing your aim. Not good.

I do what you are suggesting, but don’t set your elevation at the very bottom of your range. Figure out how many turns/clicks you have from center to bottom and split the difference. That should keep you from having problems due to being at the end of your erector tube travel, you will have more room to click up without going too high either. Main reason I do this is I have a Hawke Sidewinder 30 8-32, and the more magnification you are using the less hold over range you have on your reticle. I can shoot 100-125 yrds with a 50 yrd zero on 8x, but if I want to use 32x at that range I don’t have enough and need to click up. Also the better the scope you have, the further you can adjust without problems at least thats what I have noticed with my scopes. I have shot with my Hawke at the top of the range and not had any problems, but I dont leave it like that all the time.
