Q:

Shift POI

I have been experiencing a problem with my Condor (.177 caliber). My groups are very good and then suddenly the gun shoots good groups but the POI changes.
Even if I zero the scope again does the same thing.

Does anybody know how i can fix this problem?

If you need any more information tell me

1. be very conscious about your hold on the rifle, holding it tight to your shoulder can make it flex
2. keep speed in the 900’s fps
3 make sure your not canting the rifle (leaning it to one or the other side) a bubble level is good for this
4 check scope and mounts, if you have a laser put it on front of the rifle in front of the scope rail….center it with the scope then push the scope around…try holding the the rifle tight to the shoulder vs loose and see how much flex there is, you will be amazed
5 fill to 2700 psi and see what happens
6 if possible do a long chronograph string, this is a great way to diagnose rifles

i had a condor that filled to 3000 psi would shoot 10-15pellets really good and then the accuracy would go all to hell…..reason for th first 10 shots the speed would slowly climb, then as pressure dropped and valve would get easier to open the speed would increase to the point of pellets simply coming out so fast that the accuracy would go all to hell (very close to speed of sound) my fix was a shim behind the valve (metal washer) to limit the stroke, later i switched to SS valve, power down but consistency up

Ok thank you I will try lowering the velocity also and see.

Since you’re shooting .177 pellets on a Condor that can throw pellets at very fast speeds even at .22 caliber, it may be that the pellets you are shooting are spiraling out of its intended flight path and losing stability. Check out this video. The shooter explains and shows in slow motion how pellets going too fast can actually become unstable in flight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z3YNLBs8Lo&list=UUNqIq439XbEIeJhFJca2J-g&index=2&feature=plcp

Hey Roach, sorry to bother you.

You got me started on thinking about shooting bullets out of air guns: again.

I wanted to try it a couple of years ago, didn’t want to spend the time, money and learning cure to cast bullets and I couldn’t find a supplier of cast 22 bullets in the 25-40 grain range.

Your success with the Condor has finally got me going!

I am not looking for extra power; I want to get better accuracy. A 22 rim fire with a good barrel and shooting subsonic ammo can shoot ½” 100 yard groups. I would like to get close to that with my Matadors.

I have a Hart .224 barrel ordered and this Tuesday I am going to order a RCE swaging press, dies and all of the other needed stuff. One die will make a slug that looks kind of like a Sheridan pellet. It will have a rounded nose, be a bore rider with a rear band that will engage the rifling and it will have a flat base. The other slug will have a Keith style nose and fully engage the grooves.

I am also right on the edge of ordering a Hart .250 barrel and a couple more dies for it. Both of the 25 dies will have the same shape as the 22. What I like about swaging is I can easily increase/decrease the weight of the slugs by adjusting the depth of the die.

Hart tells me that their .224 barrel will have a .2243” groove depth and a .218” bore. I hope that the specs are accurate as I am going to order the dies for those specs. The Hart barrel has a 6-8 week wait, I don’t know what the wait will be on the RCE press and dies. I hope that it is not too much longer than that.

It’s only money and it gives me something to do!

I have been messing with Chairgun, just to see what POI the slugs will give at extended range. The better BC of the slugs makes quite a difference at longer range!

I have seen, in a couple of your topics, that you use a different ballistic program instead of Chairgun. I can’t find the program that you use. Help me out here!

Any other thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

Tedd

It is a problem often associated with the AF platform.

Some find it happening as pressure decreases in their tank. Try filling back to the exact same pressure after each group. Then shoot 5 consectutive groups on one fill and see if you find a difference.

Good Luck,

Roachcreek

Shoot more pellets through it, I had a barrel and shot it 100 times more and presto good shootin again.

Try a different scope seams Like that’s the problem. I would almost bet the farm. Try smacking it and see if poi changes

Ok I will try all these.
Is there anything more specific to have in mind that could be causing me this problem?
