Q:

ShoeBox Refill Station

Been 2 or 3 years since I’ve been on here. Set up a refill station in my basement Thursday. Took a couple of pictures while topping off my Airhog tank.

Still need to get set up to fill directly from the compressor to the rifles. Should put my Talon SS on the bench and take a picture. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks a lot!

Avox, may I ask where you got the particle filter?

Ran across it at home depot in a blister pack while looking for extra fittings. It’s a Husky model HDA70403AV rated to 150 PSI. Cost something like $13 if memory serves me right.

Yes heat is the killer for the o-rings and pistons. Did take the option for the harden pistons and purchased a spacer and o-ring overhaul kit. Watching the how to videos it looks easy. Shutting it off every 2 or 3 hours and re-lubing the pistons helps the o-rings and pistons live longer. I think running it for too long will shorten the life so I will probably let it cool down every couple of hours. Think I’ll put a thermometer on it and monitor for over heating.

When handling HPA use the proper fittings and hoses and replace when they show wear. This will go a long way in alleviating the dangers. Oh yea, when you make a connection with quick connects tug on them to make sure it’s locked in.

Think you misread, I’m filling the AirHog to 305 bar, just a little under 4500 psi. Aluminum dive tanks top out at 205 bar or 3000 psi.

Regarding the ShoeBox… For such a small machine, it’s amazing that it can go over 200bar. I’m interested in the long term where after several runs topping off large tanks that it wouldn’t last as long. The pistons are working terribly hard since they are SO tiny… Sure you can compare them to hand pumps but pumping isn’t anywhere as fast. HEAT is a major issues with these pumps and playing around with 3000+ psi is REALLY scary.

I would LOVE to have a set up like this. So jealous.

BTW, if you’re filling up an airhog at just 205bar, isn’t filling up a regular aluminum dive tank cheaper?

Nice setup on your workbench. Love the look of your Talon SS, looks mean.

The partical filter is a good idea. I need to do that to my setup.
Thanks for the tip.

First run with the ShoeBox. Was only topping off the tank and started at 280 bar. The ShoeBox shut off about 285 bar. Adjusted the collar and when it went over 300 it was not yet engaging the switch. Shut the power off and backed the collar down to where it engaged the switch and it shut off at 305 bar. Good enough!

Put my wife’s old faded pink fan on them after taking the pictures. Really an ugly fan and does not move much air. Will get a turbo fan later and that will move a lot of air. Monitored the hoses and Shoebox for heat and the fitting on top did not even get warm. The surface above the manifold was very warm. Later when I am filling from a lower level I’ll unwrap the hoses if the hose warms up. The shop compressor has rubber feet and I did not notice it walking. It only runs for less than a minute each time it comes on.

Knew the Crown Royal bag would be spotted. :18:

No one said anything about the unit after the desiccant filter. It’s a 5 micron particle filter and water trap. Wanted the particle filter to keep out any desiccant dust from the system. Has anyone done any research on this?

Promised a picture of my Talon SS:

Nice setup and it looks very much like mine right down to the Crown Royal bag…..Have fun and a sip.
Best,

that’s nice, i want one of those but i cant justify it, have a paintball place to close to get fills.

Nice set-up. You might want to put a small fan to blow on theose pistons. and take that wrap off the hose coils to allows air to cool better. I’ve never tried filling a gun directly. Seemed more prudent to fill a tank then use it to fill a gun. I swear I have that same workbench. I had to put my compressor on the floor because it will walk right off the bench when it”s on and vibrating.
