Q:

Shooting 200 yd targets

What scope setup would get me shooting 200 yds?

Do I need to add shims, get higher scope mounts? I am playing around with Chairgun and the only way I can get close to 200 is by lowering magnification to 4x. That’s like shooting a needle into a hay stack.

My current setup:
1. .25 R3M STD
2. Hawke 8-32×56
3. Medium scope mounts

What kind of groups are you guys getting at 200 yards with these guns? I probably missed a post in the past when someone posted. Just curious…thanks. Also, I used the .012 piece off of a cheap feeler gauge as shims. I used two pieces of it giving me .024 total. Since my 10x fixed mag SS (mil/mil) scope is 3.125″ above my bore I had to use up 35 mils to get a 30 yard zero. This left me with only 10 more mils of up. Now I am planning to set my zero at 75 yards. Handloads.com got me out (.257 caliber 1025 fps 74 grain lyman) to 250 yards on the 10th mil of my reticle. With only 10 mils remaining before the shims I would only be able to reach around 380 yards. When the time comes for me to take the “Pepsi challenge”(500 yards is what I am going for) I need 10 mils in the reticle plus 20.4 in the turret. Adding the two shims gave me another 12 mils in my turret so now I have 22 available mils in my turret. In addition the shims enabled my scope to sit very close to its mechanical zero (much better for the endurance of the spring and the tube).

is there a big brightness difference in the 42 vs 50 vs 56mm obj?

how is the glass clarity? I currently have a couple Hawke scopes, so that would be my baseline.

thanks

happy holidays.

Yeah Donny the Falcon Menace is a great scope for that, I have one on my AR and I’m very happy with it, I’m thinking to order another one for my new gun but I ordered a Hawke tactical again! What can I say I really like this scopes! 😉

What speed you pushing pellets.
I’ve got mine at 940fps with a 104yd zero on my Hawke 8-32×56.
12X puts 200 yd targets nicely centered in MOA box.
No difference in groups compared to 885fps either.

Donny, Until you get a scope with more adjustment, you can indeed shim under the scope in the rear ring. I use Ti heat treating foil, but many just use thin alu. Beer can, soda Ca will do. An old favorite use to be 35 mm camera film.
Who the hell uses that stuff anymore? 😆

If you do try any of these shims, just be sure not to cut it to cover the entire width of the bottom ring. This will make the ring too tight and can cause crush marks on your scope.

Donny;

My R3 has 6.5-18X56 Falcon Menace optics and I must say Im a fan.. FPP and metric.. 200 meter shots are a walk in the park..

Falcon’s can also be purchased here in the US

The falcons are great scopes for long range shooting the bigger models are better than mine mind been fixed mag but opted for that as it was lighter but great scopes all the same for the cash try optics Wharehouse ect normally cheaper there too

Thanks guys, if google is correct 1 Euro = 1.37 US dollars. That’s not bad so 200 Euros is about 273 dollars. 🙂 Just learned something new today FFP.

Here u go mate on my ret zero is only 30 yards power is 940 with jsb 25.4 grain here a link to where I got it from and others most falcon have emd rest

I was going to say you might need to go FFP. At 200 your probably looking at 100-150″ of drop depending on zero, so may be hard to find a scope that has that many dots/hashes.

The falcons are great for long range shooting mate loads of aim point they do variable mag also in ffp mine was only £190

Thanks Dave, I was able to get to 200 by lowering mag down to 6x and zero at 10 yds.
