Q:

Shooting after the barrel cleaning

Here is a evidence for those people which canΒ΄t believe after cleaning the barrel is accuracy gone… I made a short test. I have cleaned the barrel properly with the Ballistol after that I start the shooting. My speed was as usually 880fps 18grain jsb pellets. As we can see the result for proper accuracy is necessary 10 shots. For the best accuracy is necessary do 15 shots. After 15 shots is my accuracy back. It was shooted at 50 meters / 55yard.

Alcohol price will rice  not for drinking but for shooting

Back in the 70s I used WD-40 to clean all my Airgun barrels, now since I have my Crickets I’m using Ballistol on them.

I can’t say which is better to use, about the same results so far.
Notice that if it takes more shots to get the same POI again. The barrel will have a higher shot count before it needs to be cleaned to get the accuracy back again.

The alcohol trick I’ve used when I need to find that right pellet for a new gun/barrel.
Between cleaning of each pellet type or brand to get me the quickest true POI for that pellets testing.

I may need to consider also to starting using alcohol again for that quick, get me on zero now.

Yes, U are right ! πŸ˜‰ No pellets waste…

I have to agree with Spinj. Today I cleaned the barrel with a ballistol and after that I soak the shred with alcohol. I did 3 times cleaning process through the barrel. My surprise was POI stay on same place with the first shot!!!  Great hint Spinj. THX πŸ˜‰

Glad to be of help Jan. Now you don’t have to waste anymore pellets right after cleaning. Just make sure you save some alcohol for cleaning the ballistol off your barrel after a clean when you wish to get a little buzzed. :winkn:

Isn’t petrol better to clean the barrel?

Alcohol ? Would that not dry out the O rings and make them stiff,
Or do you go back re lube the barrel O ring?

Nope, alcohol will not dry up the O-rings. I’ve been doing it many times on all my guns. Heck, the original breech O-ring on my Air Arms S410 has never given up even after many cleaning sessions. I’d sometimes use WD-40, Hoppes cleaning solvent, and Break Free CLP and the O-ring has never gave out. And I got the gun back in 2007! When I removed the O-ring for inspection about a couple of months ago it was in perfect condition. Plus, isopropyl alcohol, the stuff you buy at your nearby grocery store, dries very quickly anyway.

:nono: …Jan, the alcohol is for cleaning not drinking.

Maybe you are right Spinj. After cleaning with ballistol I did not use patches soaked in alcohol. Maybe this is reason of first inaccuracy. It makes sense because my barrel hate oiled pellets. Next time I will try alcohol patches too.

Perhaps the reason for the inaccuracy after you cleaned the barrel was traces of oil or that the slickness of the cleaning agent wasn’t completely removed. My gun shoots to the same POI even after a clean as I make sure that I wipe off the cleaning oil before shooting. Sometimes after a clean, I will a run a couple of cleaning patches soaked in alcohol followed by a couple of dry patches. Usually, I’d hear the squeak while pulling the patches with alcohol.

Nice, looks like it’s all dialed in. 😎
