Shooting lighter 25cal pellets in matador
Has anyone tried tuning down the 25 matador to shoot the 20 grain (or so) pellets at acceptable speeds? Just wondering if anyone has had any luck trying this. I was thinking about getting a can of the h&n feild target or Gamos and trying them out with a little less regulator but decided against cause I’ve only got $100 to spend lead and one tin problaby wouldn’t be worth the work of adjusting/testing/getting a few groups at close range, then running out and having to swap we’re thing back for the barracudas and the jsb.

Me too. I love the barracuda and hunter extrem. I’m surprised by how far out I can hit with the extrem. There is vid of me hitting cans at 100 yards with mrod and the extremes.
Oh wait, I started this post…. Shit, I mean ya sure, that is. I ask cause Ed aid he could hit better under 100 yards with the 22. So I thought I might be able to duplicate with light 25 cal pellets.
I am with you. I would say I have noticed a general tendency for heavy pellets to be more consistent.
To my experience lighter pellets aren´t as accurate once the range opens up so i don´t want my pellets to be any lighter than the 25.4 gr JSB´s/AA/FX/EdGun/whatever King´s – au contraire. I like those Benjamins at 28 gr (heavier) and H&N Baracuda´s ( heavier still at 31 gr +). I hope the Xterminator – pellets by Hurricane (30gr) perform well since that would be the , IMO, ultimate weight for target shooting upto 100m or so. Need to test them thoroughly and wait for Whiningwino´s test and verdict on them at different speeds.

What is your desire to shoot a lighter pellet?
Are you looking for a higher shot count and still get a decent fps for flatter trajectory?
I look at it like this. The 22 is great for plinking and small game hunting and plenty of JSB pellet weights from 18 down to 13.4 grains shoot excellent for whatever application you desire.
The 25 is primarily a hunter. The JSB 25 even at 940fps is still as exceptionally accurate as it is at 885 fps out to 150yds at least in my gun.
Even at 940 fps I still get 74 regulated shots and another dozen useable above 900fps shots for hunting.

There´s more to the equation than just the pellet weight and velocity. Maybe someone here , with proper knowledge and a knack for formulating a subject , can explain why two pellets weighing the same, shot at the same velocity BUT in two different calibers behave so differently.
