Shooting rests
What do you guys use when you are serious about shooting great 100 yard groups?
I am currently using a Harris bipod and a padded adjustable rest in the back. Never tried bags like Caldwell makes. I have made a couple of mechanical rests and the bipod and rear rest setup is more accurate.
I don’t mind paying $400-$500 for a good mechanical rest but, if bags work as well or better; I don’t want to waste the money on a custom rest.

My own bag.. Made from a bag from PC memory:

I don’t use a rear bag because it is not allowed in our competition, so I do not train with it also… and not needed, because a 7 shot group at 110 yards (100m): (black ring is 25mm, 0.98″
I don’t use a bipod anymore because the results where not as good as now with the bag..
Caldwell bags, front and rear.
OG, your setup works. I usually use just the Bipod with my hand/fist on the rear of the stock for a rest. I also have a front and rear bag set too. I use those 2 mainly.
Even with my Tikka T3 in 6.5x55mm, i get better groups with the bags vs the bipod/palm rest. .275″ CTC (bags) vs .450″ CTC (bipod) with the same load/bullets and using one rest vs the other type.
sand bags, front and rear. most of the time, i use the same setup as you. just what i’m used to, i guess.

IMO, sand bags make for better static rests (as in when you’re at a range/bench set-up)
i have a small canvas bag i carry with me when hunting that i fill with native soil when i’m ready to hunker down in one spot for a while.
bi-pods work OK but tend to catch on brush and trees when moving thru it.
