Q:

Shot counts???

Gentle friends,

From no less a source than our very own Quick Reference section (under “Technical Information and Specs”) comes this:

56. Shots per Fill:
12ft/lb = 500
20ft/lb = 60
25ft/lb = 30
30ft/lb = 10

This seems way out of line to me, although I’ve never made a careful test. Granted, it doesn’t mention important details like caliber and barrel length.

I shoot mostly a 12 inch .22 barrel and think 60 shots at 20 fpe to be about right. 500 at 12 I don’t….maybe on CO2?

Anyway, it’s got me to wondering what you folks actully are getting for shot counts?

TIA

Doug Owen

Dave, how did u check the guage?

Current setup on my TSS is 18″ .22 barrel, Blodnob valve, 75 gm. hammer, and ally breech. I’ve got it dialed way back, JSB’s are averaging 980 fps for a 30 shot string, or almost 34 fpe. Don’t know if it’s a fair comparison, Sean’s valves seem a lot more efficient than the Air Force valves.

I’ve always had good shot counts, even with stock valves and various calibers. And I recently discovered that that was at fairly low pressure, my fill gauge was reading 700 psi high, so what I thought was a 3K psi fill was actually only 2300 or so. No wonder I never had any valve lock issues :-)! Later.

Dave

The 12 fpe UK Rifles with 18″ barrels can get 500 shots at 12 fpe.

The 12″ barreled “Gunpower Shadow” is advertised as getting 400 in .22.
