I have toyed with the air shotgun idea myself. have a lathe/mill comming in this week (Yea! after 3 months on backorder). Most likely will try to utilize one of my bulk fed QB78s as a donor for the initial project. Figure with #9 shot should be able to get a good enough pattern for birds or some “ritz skeet” shooting off the back porch. The resulting cracker crumbs should also entice some other targets to start visiting. Going to take a lot of air volume through the valve to get the job done.

i figured with the right choke might be able to get a good pattern out to 30 yards which should be good for birds and rabbits, and at 3000 psi should have plenty of pookey take them down with no problems, especially with .22 cal balls as buck shot? shells would be easy just a plastic tube, place a wad in one end fill with shot and a wad on the other end to seal it, slide tube into breech, but with the talon it would be a short tube im affraid, but the width of a 45 cal tube may make up for the shortness of the cartridge if that makes any sense, ive had so many more hunting and pest control oppertunities since i gone to air, and if this shotgun idea works out, oh man thats going be a hell of alot more, theres lots of places here where hunting isnt banned, but the firearms is

gamo is gay end of story, you might as well use copper water pipe then

I’ve been wanting to make an air shotgun with enough load and energy to actually drop birds.

Possibly based on the 22XX platform since they’re cheap, but I don’t know how I could really make an effective breech/barrel for shotshells on one. For someone with a lathe and mill it’s probably a piece of cake.

From what I hear the affordable Gamo Viper Express is barely suitable for cockroaches.

How about milling some custom aluminum shot shells that seat into the breach. Then you could have several on hand for some quick air shot gun action.

i tried stuffing something like 50 bbs into my former .45 barrel…at 10 yards it just ripped the letter sized piece of paper to shreds

i had machined a small delrin plug….and rolled the bb’s in paper with the delrin shim at the back….im think any material that wont alow the air to blow by will be fine.

so its definatly possible to make a airshotgun.

now how to make the talon a frontloader…one could move the barrel down to the tophatthen everything will work normally, but you have to load from the front

thats the thing about being able to shoot shot, you can pick whatever size you need from almost a course dust to buckshot, the reason i asked is i found a loop hole in our game laws i think, i showed this years small game proclamation to our local game warden, where it list legal hunting arms for small game, and game birds, it list .22 rimfire for small mamals,
and shotguns no larger than 10 guage and no smaller than 410, no more than 3 shots 2 in the mag 1 in the tube for pumps and semi autos, also list muzzleloading shotgun as as acceptable, but nowhere does it mention anything about propellants for shotguns, the game warden told me that if i wanted to hunt birds with a air shotgun to knock myself out but make sure its aleast 410 and i am in season with a current license, that gives me a little less than a year to find a drop in barrel for my talon, with a acceptable choke, or a affordable air shotgun with enough power to do the job, even if i couldnt use it to hunt game, i’d still want it, a shotgun is more forgiving when it comes to dealing with certain pest at night

I’d like to shoot a small smoothbore for dusting flying wasps and hornets around my place … that would be a blast 😆
