Q:

Shots per fill

I saw something about this saying

12ft/lb=500
30ft/lb=10

I have no idea what this means, please explain.
I have a stock talon, with pw set all the way up. How hany shots can I expect with a full tank? My thoughts are sight it in on full power. then back off the power slowly till i start to get poi drop. does that sound right?

You’ll get 30 full power shots and depending on the gun a few more. Only a chronograph + pellet weight will give your ft/lbs and number of shots.

Either way – you have a great gun – you can shoot it stock and be very happy. Just zero it and pay attention when it fails to hit your target.

The general consensus is 2600-2700psi as a start pressure, any higher and you spend air without any benefit… you may also get valve lock – where the valve fails to open fully until the pressure drops to 2600-2700psi.

Have you got a 177 or 22 Talon?

Well I guess Ill be getting a chrony! Thanks so much for all the input

Bottom line though is you are going to HAVE TO use a chrony (buy, beg, borrow or steal) in order to get an accurate reading of how your gun is shooting…..”guessing” at it, I found out the hard way, just doesn’t work. Doesn’t make sense to buy a $500.00 (or more) gun and the just guesss at it’s output….you’d be cheating yourself out of a lot of performance, and not enjoying owning it near as much as when you do it right…Sorry this is so long…but IMHO, it is important to get across to new AF owners jsut how much performance the gun is capable of, when tuned properly!!!

I too have a TSS in .177, use 10.2 Beeman pellets Mine likes to start @ ~2750psi and shoot down to ~2100 psi…BUT at PW setting of 4.0..mine is only shooting around 830-840…A little slower than ssshooters, but that’s no big deal,,,just the difference between one gun and another..I get about 60 good hard shots(15-16.4 fpe) with no drop in POI @ 25 yards.

You won’t like the answer but: get a Pro Chrono Digital Chronograph.

On my TSS I set the PW to the lowest setting that gives me the most power… e.g. PW1 I might get 600fps, PW2 maybe 700fps, and so on, until I find the PW4 gives me 890fps and PW5 gives me 900fps…. so I stop when the increases slow down as I’m just wasting air.

But, without a chrono… your best bet is to shoot a lot and find the setting that gives the best balance of flat trajectory.

My personal experience with a 177 TSS is 2650psi fill… 35-45 high power shots (no drop at 40 yards) ending 2200psi and another 100 shots at 20 yards, ending pressure about 1000psi.
