Where is this golf crap coming from?
Don’t use the high mag if you don’t need it but you then have the larger 20x etched glass reticle. THe difference is remarkable. My scopes are always set on 14x for mil dot usage.

Did you check out the prices at this place? I got the 4-16×50 with half mil dot for $290, shipped. the price was the no brainer part. Not sure I can find a tactical anywhere close to this price. I thought about the higher magnification but even though there are times a 20x or 24 x would be great most times I cant hold still enough to use that much x power.
I don’t know which mag scope you ordered but the Hawke tacticals have the newer 20x etched glass 1/2 mil dot reticles that are twice the size in the higher mags for only a little more.
