Q:

Sieg X1 Micro Mill arrived today!!!!

Yeah, so since I was on a limmited budget and space for now, I went ahead and bought the small Micro Mill from Harbor freight for $320 + tax which totalled out to $347.71 which isn’t too bad. Well, it shipped and arrived at the HF store today so I went and picked it up. Wow, it’s such a pita to uncrate that thing!!! The black metal bands are a nightmare without shears!!! Anyhoo, all said and done I got it uncrated and cleaned off most of the red packing grease. I still need to buy a set of 2MT collets and some endmills and a clamp kit, but when that’s all done, I’ll be cutting some stuff for my .22 Disco such as a riser breech for 1/4 barrel shroud, an extended barrel band that resenbles a 2-3″ sleeve with a weaver rail cut into the bottom of it for sling, bipod, and flashlight. Then I’ll make a mount for a highspeed dremel on the side and then a small “L” bracket for a counterweight to make turning the hand crank on top for the Z axis easier by hand. Well, I talk too much, so here’s 2 pics of the lil beast, one just a normal one, then the second with my Spruce blank for a pistol grip for the Disco!

Yup, it is. One thing I don’t like is that I can move the motor housing left and right about 1/8″, just a lil play in it =\

Well, hopefully sometime soon, I’ll be getting the 2MT micromill tooling package from LMS for $229.00 so when that happens, I’ll be makin a buncha stuff =]

I’d just never noticed that the head was in two parts.

I’m surprised that it didn’t come with the collects. Odd. I guess that is how HF sells for cheaper. Mills (hobbiest size) just about always come with a collect and clamp set as standard equipment. 😕

Okie dokie, thanks guys! Will do!

Oh yeah, since I was on limited budget and space, I didn’t follow the basic rule: Always buy the biggest machine you can within your budget.

I’ll beback on tonight with a pic or 2 of what I’ve come up with for a drawing of my pistol grip.

Looks nice I like it ! 😀

Look great Kenny! I have to get one here soon, just moved and live close to a HF! Show some of the stuff you make, even if it is for your RC vehicles. 🙂

Try some HDPE plastic (High Density Poly-Ethylene). It’s great stuff to mill and is super strong for plastic… Comes in a few different colors and up to 2″ thick…

How does it look different? Probably different color schemes cuz Sieg makes them and other companies distribute them with their colors.

Leemak: Let me know if you still have that in a couple days, I’ll probably buy that from you =]

WalkonKing: Haha, yes, it’s cute lol. It’s the littlest mill I’ve EVER seen that can still do small stuff like I need it to do. It’s 1/30th the weight of my neighbors Bridgeport and about the same size as the tool head =]
But I’m only going to use it to cut aluminum parts for my Disco and for my RC cars.

I was going to get the Super X3 for $1400, but school stuff got in the way and some other things. Plus, if I were to get that, then I’d have spent all of my money and not be able to afford tooling and work holding stuff.
So I bought this tiny mill since I have barely any room, I’m only going to be doing small-ish stuff out of aluminum, and I don’t need a 3,000 lb Bridgeport to do small stuff only =]

So, after I get a few collets or a collet set and a collet holder, some end mills and a very small indexable face mill [optional], clamps, etc
then I’m going to make a counterweight system for the Z axis as its a pita to raise and lower it. Right now I’m making a small stand thingy to raise it up 2-3 inches that matches the base so I have hand wheel clearance.
Then hopefully later today I’ll have a small desk to put it on or make a small corner table raised up to about 3.5 – 4 ft and bolt it down to that.

Extremely long post, sorry guys.

Cute 😀

quote leemak:

,you will need one if you want to clamp stuff on your mill for milling ,, Lemak

😆 😆 Hell, guess he needs one of those then…

I have a brand new micro mill “step block and clamp kit ” I bought by mistake awhile back , for sale for 35.00 shipped ,if you want it ,you will need one if you want to clamp stuff on your mill for milling ,, Lemak

Nice !

I have the X2, did the ship to store special order too – glad I found out about that, the shipping savings along with price match saved me a lot.

That X1 looks a bit different to other X1’s I’ve seen but that might just be because its a better picture.
