Q:

Sigh; got tired of ogling all your pics of Mini Mill

Damn you guys, I should know better at my age, but seeing all these beautiful mini mills, I just jumped and bought the Grizzly on ebay. It’s only 3/4 hp and about 350 lbs, but they said shipping was only $231 so I had to jump. Been lusting after some sorta mill for years. Had a shot at an old Bridgeport that a friend was selling, only $1200; I should have bought that one for sure, but it was a monster, taller than I am; I no longer have access to a forklift or flatbed to move it here. This tiny machine will have to do:

R8 taper and despite the small size the gibs look tough, I think it’ll do just fine for small jobs. No more wincing along with the milling attachment on the lathe! Now, anyone with a DRO they’d like to sell cheap? or a power feed attachment?

aloha,
walt

Hahahahah, isn’t that why we all got into hunting? Aside from the excitement of the kill, the good eating after is always gratifying. And, wild caught meat has a definite attraction nowadays; no steroids or SPCA issues; and usually pretty lean as well. Although, the pigs I have been picking up this year have been unreal. Cut through the skin and fold back a 1″ thick layer of fat… wasteful to not use it, I know filipinos like to deep fry the skin, and chinese like it as kau yuk; I try to leave some fat on the meat when I dress it out as it makes the smoked end product juicier: but man, that’s gotta be like a lifetime supply of cholesterol right there.

Just smoked to pork shoulders a couple weeks ago. 13 hours in the smoker and smell of smoked meat drives the neighbors crazy.

Aren’t machines wonderful? ..but I shot a small 80 lb pig yesterday (with the DAQ… it would have been a wonderful opportunity to test the new .25 Tony Condor, but the new gun has a bad trigger that I have to fix first) and the meat is still in the cooler outside. I gotta get some work done, then go hit the cooler and debone the meat. My freezer is currently full, so that means all new incoming meat goes directly into the smoker. There is never a problem finding folks who want smoked kalua pork, though 🙂 That goes like hotcakes… 15 hours of processing later. I have no defense against the neighbors; they know that when the smoky smell is coming from my backyard, time to bust out the plates.

Walt,

These guys are great to deal with also.

Cool! Thanks WOK. Now I gotta wait for my next ENCO flyer and order an R8 collet set and end mill set and some dovetail cutters. Wish I had more time! I’m definitely ordering the power feed, and sent an email to the SMW people for a kit. Gotta see what they say about cost….

Nice Walt. I bet it can be a pain with shipping things to the Islands , but that price isn’t bad at all! I got the X2 which is 1 model down from yours and a LOT smaller (only 150lb shipping weight) and some places wanted $219 to ship it to me freight so $250 is darn good I’d say.

Looking forward to some pics.

That is a SIEG X3 mill.

Here is the power feed http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=2954&category=

Talk with these guys for a DRO. I have one they made for the minimill and they are very helpful

The cheapest DRO I know of is from EZdro.com and you can purchase encoders, cables and a box that puts the numbers on a monitor that you supply.
I bought the box and am in the process of rigging it up for my mill.
Walter….

Oh, damn, it just occurred to me that my 6″ vise (a genuine Kurt vise, not an ENCO copy ) won’t even fit on this tiny machine. Blah…. see what happens when you start collecting gear before buying the machine??
