Silencing the springs on my Crickets
This is what I did to quiet the hammer spring.
I squeezed in half and placed a Cricket (reg & gauge 2mmx10mm) O-ring inside and lightly silicone lubed.
The size of the OD depends on the type and or length of the spring guide if you have one on your HST.
This will insure that it doesn’t compress the O-ring when cocking, so you may need to use a different diameter one.
Don’t use a thicker then 2mm O-ring, it will start to have an effect on lowering the tension on the spring.
Added note, I found that the hammer spring has a softer twang when installed the other way.
I found which way was the softer and marked the spring so I know the next time how it goes in.
Also added a thin nylon washer on the spring end(s) where if they will be metal to metal contact only.
Then I added the O-ring inside and installed.
I’m a firm believer of the OCCAM’S RAZOR and to attack the problem at the source of.
It’s easy to test just hold the hammer spring with a long nose pliers and flick it with your finger.
Add a O-ring inside it and flick again ,,,,, ,,, , very effective.
I also try this technique with the value spring with little to know results with a de-pinged AT.
Also HST with a metal guide I use shrink tubing on it.
Choose a next smaller diameter one and insert a small long nose pliers into it to stretch it larger.
Install and carefully heat, lightly silicone lube the outside.
This also helped a bit to keep things from vibrating with the hammer smack.
There are also 3 small springs inside the receiver, 1 in the trigger group and one on the trigger rod.
On the trigger rod spring (first stage pull) it made the feel of the pull less jig gully.
I use the white foam from the pellet tins and cut them 1/3 in length to fit loosely inside of these springs.
Pull it through with dental floss and cut them to length, no need to take the springs out.
I’d suspect that every two years or so it will need to be replaced with fresh ones.
