Q:

Silent but Deadly Cricket thanks to Neil Clague!

So about 4 weeks ago I saw Ernest Rowes post on the yellow about his 7 fpe cricket and the shot of it with the Clague LDC and shroud amazed me, I HAD TO HAVE ONE! So a short email correspondence to both Ernest and Neil I ordered one.

The new shroud is at least 50% quieter than the stock one with Hoots hole mod.
Its hard to describe exactly how quiet the LDC is. Its quieter than Hollywood quiet. Its much quieter than a .22 cb with a can. Its as quiet as a mouse fart.
I’ll post a YouTube video of it shooting with and without the LDC later.

The fit and finish is beyond excellent. The alum work is very fine and smooth. The fit to the barrel is perfect, its actually almost too tight which is good. People with a detail oriented eye will see than the weave of the carbon isn’t identical but that was done on purpose because I didn’t want to wait any longer for the matching weave to be ordered and show up. So I got the shroud and LDC a week earlier and don’t mind it at all.

Stock cricket is 27″
W/ Neil shroud 32.5″
W/ Neil shroud and LDC 41.75″

Shroud is 16.25×1.25″
LDC is 10×2″
Shroud and LDC is 25.5″

Here are some pics.

1/2-28 threads on shroud (might have to spin a .22 can on to see what happens)

The shroud and LDC was $310 delivered

quote WarBoom72:

The neil shroud is at least 50% quieter and the poi does not shift at all, which surprised me.

And for a backstop I’m using a duct putty pellet trap, it is perfectly silent.

Nice!

How much is setup like yours?

What are you using for a backstop for backyard plinking? No matter how quiet the gun the impact is the tell.
Even my rubber mulch backstop pellet impact is slightly louder than 25 muzzle.
The 22 pellet strike is much louder than muzzle.
Impacts on rats with either caliber is significantly louder than muzzle.

Its nice that it is removable. Is shroud only more quiet than stock one?

Does POI change at all when you attach the front portion?

You have a very good point and that’s why the LDC is removalable. In the field I’m going to use just the shroud but for backyard, benchrest or nighttime shooting ill screw on the LDC. The shroud by its self is only a couple inches longer but is much more efficient at quieting down the muzzle blast.

F & D sorta kinda has a point, but just think how long it would be if it was a standard configuration rifle.

You might as well just poke the squirrel with it instead of shooting it 😀

I’m sure it’s more quiet, but what is the point of getting nice compact bull pup rifle and adding a three foot shroud to it?

To each its own I guess.

Took some nutters with it today
