Silent Pellet Brief Case
I’m just starting on this project, here are the raw materials. I will follow up with a post once its complete and tested.
All from Home Depot…
* 10lb Duct Seal (1lb bars) do not buy Duct Sealant! (big mistake)
* FYI: The duct seal box is the same as letter size paper targets.
* Plumbers putty for surrounding missed shots, see after pics.
* Steel plate to act as a backstop and to prevent damage to the case.
* 3M Double sided sticky tape, for attaching plate to case.
* Odd bit of steel to act as magnetic paper holder.
* Aluminum tool case.
* 2×4, not shown, will be used for framing, see after pics.
* Magnet, not shown.
* Target, not shown.

Yes, I just measured the depth of mine, it is 2 inches thick, so that would be two layers I think. I have mine supported by the metal sides which may or may not aid in the bullet catching ability if the material can’t spread out.
But yur on the right track putting it in a metal device that you can close and carry.

I plan on two layers and then buy a couple of spare sticks to re-enforce the hotspots after I’ve been using it a while.
I should get time to build and test later this evening.
I plan on using only 7gn wad cutters on this target, that should aid in reducing penetration. I found shooting soda cans was creating a lot of noise on impact. Plus I have to keep a supply of cans handy! This should tidy up my garage a little.

First time I bought duct seal,, I shot one stick with my Condor and it did not penetrate.
Looking back I may have three layers in there, but to make it man portable I don’t think I would put any more in. Seems way to heavy and expensive.
Yesterday I shot it twenty times in the same hole, testing with my CHrony. I wondered if it would dent the back of the metal box, but I did not feel anything there when I checked it.
I supose if your shooting it with that 29 of yours it would need 5 layers, but I just use my piddly condor and what I have works.
I just press it to fill the holes every now and then and it works,
I have thought about printing out the targets, but I usually shoot at the center bull and then use the numbers in the white to aim at after that, then I get 5 groups per target, when I run out of these store bought targets,I will probably print some of those that are on the chairgun site.

Here are some print-your-own targets I designed. Although I prefer the Orange Peel stickers now; more expensive but a great deal more fun, especially with open sights.

make your own targets, multiple bulls
or they are out there
that way your POI is spread around
more so ya don’t stack up the pellets
I have pulled pretty good sized gobs of fused
lead
personally I like my 22 rimfire trap
the sound of impact and the shattered pellets
reminds me of the power!!!!!

Instead of the conduit box try this.
While searching for a metal cooking pan to put my duct seal in, I found a metal file box that was letter size to hold documents, it closes with two hasps and has a carring handle, unfortunately it was at St Vincents Depaul and I had to pay all of three dollars for it. Seems to be almost as heavy duty as the electrical boxes.
I filled it with two layers of duct seal, I set it on top of fence posts with the lid hanging down and put a airgun bullseye taget in it, if I overlap them I can get two targets in it.
When I am done shooting I simply close it and carry it by the attached handle to my car or the Polaris six wheeler. I can carry it stealthly in the car, because it makes me look more like an accountant rather than a rat assasin.

Your post is what inspired me… My first attempt was an electric breaker panel, it was good, but I wanted something that looked a little nicer, hold spare target, and large enough to catch a missed shot. That is where I found Duct Sealant was not a substitute for Duct Seal!
I’ll look into those hemostats to remove pellets.

go to the elect. Section and get yorself a small
breaker panel and rip all the stuff out for your
duct seal
the one I got fits a paper target perfect
I also unwrap my duct seal
Using hemostats you can pluck the pellets out
and re roll out the duct seal for more shootin

I’m going to use the plumbers putty on the outside to prevent spread and to act as a shunt for missed pellets. I may put a wooden divider in, not sure yet. I’ll definitely post pictures of the in-progress and final… it shouldn’t take that long to build.
