Q:

Silent Trap

Didn’t search, so someone may have already come up with this idea (and I’d be surprised if an innovative airgunner hasn’t) , but . . . it works for me . . . stopped .177, .22 (TalonSS set on “potent”) , and a Tony AAA ( set on “nuclear holocaust”) at point blank range. 2″ of duct seal inside a 10 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ (outside dimensions), 2″ x 6″ box, backed with 1/8″ steel plate & 1″ plywood. Cheap, except for the duct seal, but it should last a LONG time. Now my fav rifles (Beeman R7, HW97K, Talon, & AAA are silent at BOTH ends!

I use carpet and I picked up over 1000sqft for free. Just go the your local carpet store and they should let you go through the dumpster 😀 . Also the sample rugs that get trashed are great for traps as well.

Excellent idea & much less expensive . . . I did the same for archery targets using compressed cardboard. Back your idea with a piece of 1/2″ scrap conveyor belt & it’s foolproof. Would allow one to build a larger backstop for sight-in purposes (on mine I only use guns that are already zeroed due to the compact size). Thanks for sharing!

i made this one from an old carpet, very cheap, very efective, dont ear anything….

That’s a good idea. Used to use a similar setup for archery. never even occurred to me to use it for a ‘pellet trap’.

haha yeah or use the force or what ever they called it to just stop the bullets

I usually like to shoot dead on at rock walls.

😛

Get practice acting like the guys in matrix. Shoot, dodge, shoot, dodge. Loads of fun.

That was my plan . . . to a point, the more you shoot, the thicker the duct seal should get until such time you need to mine the lead glob & refill the void.

quote Yellow Ninja:

You just press the duct seal in over the pile of pellets, eventually the lead will start to clump and you end up just pulling those big lumps out and pressing duct seal back into the hole that’s left.

Ah yes, I see.

I like the Duct seal idea, for queitness, but when you shoot dime size groups on your targets over and over again don’t the impacted pellets just start piling up on top of each other in the seal? It seems you would always be moving your targets around to have ‘fresh’ duct seal backing, and finally just running out of space, or maybe it doesn’t matter.

Looks good !

I need one of those for my yard – The pile of bricks with the sand just isnt that quiet.

Yes we’ve made a few here. Search Pellet Trap. Goodeye !
