Q:

Size of air tanks question

HI, I’m trying to decide on which size air tank to get. I’ve kind of ruled out the 4500 psi tanks, even though I would like one because they are so small, mainly due to the fact that I can’t find anyone around here that can fill one to that psi.

I would like to have one at least small enough that I could carry it in a backpack. I called a scuba shop and they said they sell them in 30 cubic feet, 40, 50 etc as well as the 50 pound 80 cubic feet tank.

My question is, about how many fills could I get from say, a 30cf tank if I have a .25 caliber condor? Thanks

Right; so how many cc are in a cf?

The condor tank I am thinking is the same size and volume as the Talon tank, which is 490cc, or 3000 psi. You can have a 3000psi tank the size of a Condor/Talon tank or you can have a 3000psi tank the size of a semi truck, the only difference between the two is their size, each will only hold 3000psi.

Right, I understand that quantity and pressure are different, but was wondering what size the condor tank is, you said 490cc how many cubic feet is that?

Also I’ve been reading that the condor works best around 2700 psi is that right? If so sounds like the 3000 psi tanks would be ok (?)

The way I figure it with a 30 cu ft tank, that would be (1) refill and that would only be if the 30 cu ft tank was actually filled to 3000psi. Most times, they lose pressure once they cool down.

So how big is the condor tank, 30cu ft?

Oh ok I see, so when you fill up the air gun after a couple of times with an 80 tank, after that you’re not able to fill the gun up with the same psi, it starts going downhill? Interesting.

The problem I’m running into with the 4500psi tanks (carbon fiber, steel) isn’t that they’re expensive or whatever it’s that I can’t find any place that can fill them to that level.

If its just a 3000psi only, i get like 3-4 top offs from a 80cu ft. then its 2900psi and down from there. Look into steel tanks, cheaper then CF and can be filled to 3500psi and up, come in different sizes. I’d get a 120 cu ft. If you want a backpack sized refill tank its going to have to be a CF to be worth the investment. Better off with a pump otherwise. see the link below. It also mentions a local fire dept. usually has the ability to fill there own air tanks, which means maybe you can work out a deal with them on fills for donations or maybe even a used CF tank?? Don’t skimp on your refill station i wish i’d have spent a little more and gotten a steel tank at the very least.
