some observations on my Evenix Max .25
OK I will be stretching this thread out in the future
today it’s just my initial impressions out of the box
This is the rifle that has been ballyhooed by many as the Edgun Killer and as I own an R3 Long in .25 I guess I should step up to call it as I see it.
First off the overall fit and finish on the MAX is very nice…no complaints there what so ever.
Now some bitching:
this rifle has all the ergonomics of a chunk of 2×6…yes that’s what it feels like when you bring it to your shoulder. There are some seriously bad design flaws in the wood as follows…
First off if you have larger hands like me you will find that the idiot Butthole buttstock will pinch the web of your hand pretty bad and that the rear thumbhole portion is not nearly large enough…it’s no Edgun
add to that the rectangular metal forend has a pretty crappy feel to it and carrys a few sharp edges.
to access the NiHi battery pack you need to remove that pair of larger allens then unplug from the guns harness prior to plugging into the charger…real pain in the ass set up, if this runs right I will refit a charging port and change out to LiPo batteries…no reason to have to tear the gun down to charge it…eventually those screws Will strip out particularly if some asshat mounts a rail for a sling or vertical grip using those bottom slots.
Yes the MAX has a pressure gauge but it is next to useless where they located it…shit the trigger linkage is positioned above the face of the dial!
pretty difficult to read it deep down that hole with the thumbhole obstructing it and the linkage above it 🙄
Compared to my Edgun the cheek weld sucks but should be better once I drop my Aimpoint Ml3 on it…I just don’t know if the rail is milled to true 1913 standard for the QD mounts I use for that and my ANPVS4 nightvision…that remains to be seen but whatever, these guns will require a high mounting system to be comfortable
Can’t find any plastic other than the buttplate, bolt window and left side main power switch
despite the lego/erector set complaints on the construction it’s an extremely solid feeling rifle, no flex or give anywhere to it.
Supposed to charge it 8 hours the first charge so won’t be able to report on function until later
as I noted in the other MAX thread it is assinine to compare this thing to an Edgun…the Edgun is just simply a way more elegant and better thought through product in my opinion
Then again the Max is a select fire beast and no matter how many try and apologize for that feature, truth is that is one of the main reason quite a few cats including myself were drawn to it in the first place.
for me it’s not a case of Edgun or MAX, I can afford both 😉

Well its saturday and on the eastern part of the country it is 11:00 AM and a nice warm day in Minnesota.

Yep Syn…same basic platform as the Speed/Conquest
Ok…burned through most of a tin of .25 Kodiaks with no failures as yet
mind you, none of this was with the selector switched to semi auto
to be frank given the 400RPM ROF the selector isn’t needed, in fact I question whether mine is even making 400RPM…feels more like the mid 300s much like a WWII English STEN MkII submachinegun
as such, at least for me it’s easy to tap off single shots.
Trigger to me is no where near that of the Edgun being slightly mushy in response and there does not appear to be any way to adjust it either.
I will say while the manual claims upwards of 500 shots per charge on the battery I noticed slight slowing of the action towards the end of testing
then again much of my shooting was in short bursts which drains the batteries faster
further the manual is VERY clear that you do not run the batteries all the way down as you will likely overheat the motor and damage it.
still have not installed optics, my Aimpoint is currently mounted to by Revolution up north and can’t be shooting this beast outside in the city so ballistic and accuracy testing will have to wait a couple weeks.
as I mentioned on the Yellow, the dual mag is a non starter on this rifle unless you enjoy the idea of sucking on a mouthful of magazine as thats where it sits.
might get around to cracking the action open over the weekend
the manual does recomend lubrication of the bolt…to do that you take off the clear plastic window on the right side of the action and apply a drop of high quality firearm lubricant…I used a drop of FP10 in each location.
despite the poor design of the stock it’s really starting to grow on me
still no Edgun killer:wink:

A shitty stock is not progress really.
Something tells me there may still be a few quirks to get through on these rifles in the near future.
I was very excited to see this post and look forward to more info coming out regarding ballistics. For all you whiners, boo freakin’ hoo, don’t buy one…. For the rest of us, this is PROGRESS.
Evanix has come out with an exciting new airgun platform that has a lot of potential. I for one think they’re doing us all a service by bringing a bold new product to market. I have way more respect for Evanix and their Max than I do for Crosman and their Rogue.
Can’t wait to see where this thread goes from here.

My gut tells me these are Never going to get close to common…just waaaay to much coin for the vast bulk of the Airgunning community
There “may” be a niche market among the Class III crowd who live in more restrictive States…those cats don’t bat an eye at dropping 5K on a registered transferable machinegun but even that market is TINY…
I see the MAX is for sale in Australia in a semi only configuration, I suspect very few countries are getting the US spec select fire variant
think I paid like 1850 for my .25 MAX, the .177 and .22 variants are less expensive

I certainly hope these things are the bomb. It always takes a couple brave manufacturers to get their feet wet before others follow. The more that follow the better the selection and quality as the technology moves forward.
Your right though at $1700 it’s not far from the Ed price but the Ed is a single shot. So for a mag fed full/semi auto it’s affordable comparatively.
I think it’s is in need of a synthetic stock, something a bit more ‘tactical’ to match the rest of the rifle.
Looking forward to more people getting further into these rifles and learning about how the valving and stuff works. I have a feeling these things are going to get seriously modded after they are more common.
If their other rifle is an indicator of the accuracy these things will have ,you are going to have some fun. 😉

Still can’t get over that gauge setup. 😆 For filling I agree it’s not an issue, but I use mine on the USFT to figure out when to refill… 😉
I think you are going to need about six more mags! I had a dozen for my 10/22 and a mag loader, I found after a while six was plenty. 😆
well Syn I have been following this ordeal closely
so far it’s been a couple folks with complaints versus 5 guns that I know of that run perfectly and I’m not exactly trolling the web for MAX evals…too much of the info out there is being posted by either fan bois or haters, not actual owners
Even with that said one of the couple with issues posted today his gun is running now
as far as affordability the price on these is not much less than my R3 long in .25
now on these elusive “aluminum” mags
my understanding was that the original magazines were all synthetic except for the springs
mine was shipped with mags that have a plastic back plate but the internal cassette and main body are alloy
in other words there is clearly a bit of poor evals afoot Syn
I did just install the batteries and tested both my mags through the gun into the pellet trap using Kodiaks loaded per the manual and mine ran through a pair of ten round bursts without a hiccup.
it reminds me of the folks who try to claim FX semi autos are unreliable when most of those folks have never even owned one.
It is a bit on the loud side but there are remedies to that

I can see why this thing is “affordable” compared to the EdGun… 😉 Somewhere in Korea a table is missing it’s leg.
The gauge reminds me of a Honda engine, to replace the exhaust manifold gasket you need to remove the cylinder head. Designed to be assembled and NEVER taken apart as if someone never thought that changing a part would ever occur, on an automobile…
After seeing that “gauge” I can see why other things may not work properly. I think my neighbor’s dog could design a better place for the gauge and it can’t even figure out how to shit somewhere other than in the driveway when it has a huge field to crap in…
Something tells me thinking that the mag issue is purely operator error is more wishful than “hope and change”. Or it could be true if every single person who bought this rifle and the other one loaded the mags wrong… 😉
In all seriousness it’s a known issue for their other semi/full auto rifle, the fix was the aluminum mags, which this rifle didn’t ship with. A few folks called it before they even fired it…

Yeah I can see the influance of the L85 in the design just as there are elements in style clearly barrowed from the Edgun like the trigger guard.
Folks need to remember that the MAX is a reasonably well thought out CONVERSION of the Evenix Speed to a Bullpup which is quite unlike the L85, FAMAS, AUG or Edguns which were designed as Bullpups
The MAX is more like the Valmet or worse yet NorChinko AK Bullpups which were restocked conventional rifles.
Cam battery is on the charger but drug out the G&G L85 AEG…it looks to be a relativly straight forward job to section the AEG frame with no permenent mods to the MAX itself…like I stated earlier the erector set construction is a boon to the modder in my opinion
this is no different than spending extra coin for a custom stock on one’s FX or Daystate and is in fact cheaper to effect.
I will give the Evenix guys this…the balance point on the MAX is directly above the pistol grip making for a superb weight distribution I have rarely found on Bullpups…mind you in the day I owned a few AUGs, a FAMAS, Valmets as well as one of the few Enfield SA80 semi autos to make it across the pond.
accuracy wise Korean barrels are every bit as good as the vaunted HW and LWs…owned a number of Evenix guns…only problem with barrels were on some of the early AR6 guns with threaded barrels where the threading severely “choked” the muzzle…my solution was to counter bore, others just cut the threaded portion off
already have inquiries out to AEG custom parts folks as other than valving to alter up this gun will be pure AEG

what it truly is though is a Drozd Killer, even my highly modded Drozd holds no candle to this platform other than in mag capacity

Now while some of you smart asses are slamming this errector set mode of build it is actually superb for a modder like myself. For example note the Knights Armament upper RIS below the action…
that ventilated steel “handguard on the MAX is a simple pressing that I can fab up a redesigned replacement in probably a half hour that will take a modded RIS upper hand guard as the MAX’s new lower handgaurd once I alter the charging set up to a remote plug.
Mounting a sling might be a bitch though as the new set up will still depend on those short screws
that said I detest probes…already considering a replacement end plug with a foster then mount a FX tube clamp with the sling mount to that.

without tearing it down it appears this design uses a mechcanical trigger group with an AEG motor to facillitate running the bolt and cocking the hammer
like I noted the linkage makes the gauge worthless but never use gauges much anyways

will post pix up on mag loading, I do think most of the issues are a combination of operator error combined with possible magazine issues at this point
for example the manual is clear on loading from the back of the magazine using the tip of a ball point pen to push the pellets in until they seat and to flare the skirts
one of the guys having problems apparently never read the manual as he was loading from the FRONT
I’ll tell you this, the MAX is not an entry level gun
WOK: What kills it for me is the shitty stock design
besides being very unfriendly to me it is just plain ugly…like the Butthole MAK90 AK stocks, only Worse!
right now I have three options rolling in my head
1…heavily mod that crap piece of wood work, still be fugly as sin though
2…purchase another Accuracy International Marauder stock to cut apart which will work and rid the rifle of much of it’s awful feel.
3…pick up a broke down L85 AEG airsoft off of Fleabay, gut it out and chop it up to make a stock keeping in terms with the military themed rest of the rifle. Have not had the chance to lay the G&G L85 up against the MAX but I am betting this would be doable with careful cutting and a bit of welding. Here is a G&G L85…the sheetmetal is all steel:

Yeah, I know, it’s not an elegant piece of art like the Edguns and even after my fussing with it to compare the two is like comparing the visual asthetic of a fine English double gun to that of a military belt fed machinegun such as the FN MAG or 249
