Q:

Some scopes I owned

This is copied from another thread, if you have any questions about my opinion about these scopes or want to know why I sold them just ask :fishinghole:

I’ve owned these scopes:

UTG Swat 3-12 – poor turrets but surprisingly nice scope for the money, very heavy for what it is.

Delta Optical Titanium 6-24×42 ao – nice glass up to about 20x but not higher, lightweight at only 500 grams but boring standard mildot reticle. Great turrets.

Hawke SW 8-32×56 – Huge scope and weighs a ton, turrets are crappy but warranty is Good. Way to big and heavy for a pup

Hawke SW Tactical 8,5-25×42 – better in weight and size yet still very heavy, mine was defective. Turrets are crappy.

Delta Optical Titanium 4,5-30×50 – good scope, great glass and really nice turrets, reticle MCZII good for paper punch.

Delta Optical Titanium 4,5-14×44 FFP – great scope, light for a FFP and good turrets, clarity and brightness is superb. But reticle is too damn thick at anyting above 10x.

The best turrets in order of how they feel:

Delta 6-24
Delta 4,5-30
Delta 4,5-14
Hawke SW
UTG

I currently own no scopes, they are all sold and I have ordered 2 SWFA 12×42 Fixed power scopes with the Milquad reticle. They are made in japan like the Delta series.

Weight of the Deltas if I remember correctly

6-24 – 500 grams
4,5-30 – 764 grams
4,5-14 – 667 grams

Weight of the Hawke Sidewinders

8-32 – 990 grams
8,5-25 – can’t remember

As you can see I am still looking for “my” scope. At the moment I just want something nice and robust that will simply work, aka Fixed power. No need to check what magnification you are at and save weight.

I used to be a huge scope guy and normally spent more on the scopes than my varmint rifles. Then I got cheap with way too many guns. lol

I like the Leupolds but was disappointed with my Nighforce NSX 8-32 and even had it replaced once. Seriously, it’s not much better than a Sidewinder IMO. A SIghtron III or SWFA kicks it’s butt on clarity for the variable high mag scopes I found out later. We did a semi-formal test of 6 variable high-mag scopes about 3 years ago with a local camera shop equipment. The results were a bit eye opening. The SIghtron III did the best. We didn’t have a March or SWFA to test. I think the S&B was close but more expensive. The Leupold and Zeiss were a step down but still very good. There were five of us rating each one. The high-end Bushnell we tested was bad for the price. The Hawke Sidewinder we tested (a good clear one supplied by the distributor) held it’s own but still at the bottom. It was the least expensive of course and still acceptable. The trouble is they are widely inconsistent.

A few on here (or used to be) owned a bunch of high-end scopes. To rich for my blood with so many other hobbies that consume my resources. lol

Too few posts on scopes on this forum IMO. I am more interested in scopes than guns to be honest

Very nice!

How does the Leupold (which I own five of) glass and clarity compare to the Deltas and March?

I used to have a Delta FFP on my Steyr before I got the March. Very nice scope by all means, but a little thick reticle as Cricket said. Some of my friends that shoot steel targets at long ranges with centerfire rifles actually prefer a thicker ffp reticle. For my use on airguns I prefer a fine sfp reticle.

Size compared to the 2.5-25×42 March:

Just picked up a new scope a couple of days ago. Leupold Custom Shop 3-9×33 EFR Rimfire with mildot and m1 elevation turret and covered finger click windage. Bought the scope used and sent it to the Norwegian importer to have them handle the custom work with Leupold. Looks very promising, will put it on my Leshiy when it arrives. Should have bought one of these years ago!

There’s a universal plastic One if you can’t find a model specific, also made in the US I think

Ah thanks. That looks like it would help. It says made in the USA so it must be available here. 😉

It is easier to adjust parallax on it if you use a throwlever type thingy like these

I leave my scopes on full mag for day time pesting but I have been doing this for fifty years and got the sighting thing down. I only turn them all of the way down (6.5-10x) at night for the coons and critters and really use the 30 cal for that. I might try a 20x SWFA with a Mil Quad if I can get a 177 Shorty. Its hard to beat the glass for the price. I would have to get used to the front focus.

Delta is Good. But I am looking for a lightweight hunting scope. The 6-24 with boring standard mildot only cost me about 270 Euro or so including shipping. You get what you pay for and that is their budget model.

The 4,5-30 is big and heavy and not a Hunting scope but pure target/paper.

The FFP had great glass and clarity and really nothing to complain atout except that the reticle was so thick at 14x I could not bare it. It had to go. The new owner even contacted me back once he recieved it and said it was a great scope, best one he owned. Had the reticle been finer I probably would have kept it.

I just like the thought of a fixed power no nonsense scope but I could not for the life of me find one that was satisfactory apart from the SWFA with their wonderful looking MQuad reticle. (And they have great customer service, a pleasure to deal with)

I thought the Deltas were every bit as good as the SWFAs?

I would be interested to know how those new ones go as was tempted my self.

I just paid for two SWFA SS 12×42 MQuad scopes with sunshades and flip ups. Can’t wait 😛
