Somebody Stop Me!
As some of you may remember I have modified an archery barrel for my condor to shoot 16” 2512 aluminum arrows. The combination of a new valve from AF and a 90gram hammer from Tony with a heavier hammer spring briefly got me up to 415 fps! I only got 5 shots at the 400fps range before the fps dropped to the low 300s. Seeing those arrows move that fast was amazing! Now here’s the problem the next day after a new 3000psi fill I could’nt break 300fps. I think I may have depressed the heavier hammer spring since I did preload it all the way to 12 on the PW.
My next move is an even lighter valve spring than the new AF valve came with. Good move ? Bad move ? Since visiting the Promised Land of 400fps nothing else will do. Ok I could live with 380 😉

My archery barrel was made from a company called swivelmachineworks. It was originally made for a 10/22 ruger to be shot with .22 blanks. I had it machined down to drop in my condor. A long road and a lot of work but worth it. I’ve got it working again with the lighter valve spring and all is well. I got 480fps with a 2512 -14” shaft! That was shooting hot as it would go with a fresh 3000psi fill. After a few hours working the chrony and ajusting the PW and tophat I now have it settled in shooting a 12 shot string from 415fps down to the 380s. Thats likely the best I’ll be able to do and Im pleased with that. For a comparison the .22 blank set up shot 435fps.

The people without a spring use lighter hammers and not as strong springs.

Thanks, good advice but to late. I tried the lighter valve spring, had a air dump that cracked the valve seat. Ordered three spares from AF today. I’ve read of some people who have no valve spring at all. How you guys pull that one off I can’t figure out. There is a balance to be had on either side of that valve and GOD willing I will find it. (with a little help from my friends) As for some pics I am a Caveman with a big gun. I dont know how to post pictures yet but when I find some time I’ll figure it out and put ‘um up.

before taking the valve apart try to play with the preload spring, either stretch or shim it first, or hell try both. just sounds easer than playing with the valve to me.
try backing off the psi to 2600 or 2700 the Condor seems to like that pressure range.

Im sure your capable of hunting with that rig. I wonder what hunting regs it would fall under though.
