SON OF "STUBBY"…it’s not your daddy’s pellet gun

After a long labor of love, and money I could have spent on loose women and good liquer, I have my former “Stubby” Talon .25 caliber modified to where I feel comfortable going out in public with her.

At 11.5 pounds and 40 inches in length end to tip, it is a big girl to play with. The bi-pod and strap are on there for good reason. You won’t be taking this beast out to squirrel hunt. You can, however, reach out and touch someone a long ways off!

It is a powerful, heavy, bitch slapping, tack driving Beast!

Essentials after the pictures:

The scope is a 30mm, Millet 10X, side-adjusting paralex, mil-dot, 1/8 MOA, with illuminated reticle. The scope weighs over two pounds by itself. It’s attached to a tri-rail with Leopold quick detach rings. $275 for the scope, $75 for the rings.

Being in a situation where my neighbors don’t trust, or like me…I need quiet, and plenty of it. Behold the Subssonic, custom made, one piece baffle, with a shroud OD almost the same size as the Talon frame, reaching out 11 inches from the frame, it has seven baffles grub screwed in place, and at $120 I have absolutely NO complaints about its ability to muffle the Beast. He also cut the SS ringed bolt for me. I can’t remember the price, I think about $20 to $25.00.

Maddog stock, leftie for me. That’s a drop dead killer good piece of wood that I would recommend to anyone. Tony TT has them now and I say get one!!! It is SO comfortable to have a form fitted piece of wood to hang onto when shooting. It simply feels good! Stubby Talon from R & L was $875.00. I later ordered the $72 extreme valve. It’s a poor man’s power house. Tony can do as good, but his price is a bit more because you get the whole valve/body, and it’s hand modded and polished. Either way, you can never have enough power!

The pellet holder I picked up from Ebay. Around $15 or so. It’s handy and I get the same number of full power shots as it holds, plus a few more, but 16 is plenty if I’m away from the house seeking to reek mayhem, cold-blooded butchery, and evil deeds, upon some unsuspecting beast of the woods…or an occasional chicken if the evil bitch next door is stupid enough to let them outside. A couple of summers ago they had to eat a LOT of fried chicken…

The trigger is a WOK special, not quite 1/2″ across and about 3/4″ long. He accommodated my need for a larger than standard trigger due to my club-like fists and thick, neck breaking sized fingers. It is hard to understand why, but that trigger turns the AF trigger into a usable piece of equipment. More surface contact with the finger really eases the pressure required to get a clean shot off. It, like the Maddog stock, simply “feels good” to the touch and is a definite game changer on accuracy. $25 if I remember. Well worth the money. I’d get another one in a heartbeat.

Finally, my friend Baz made an angled adapter that tragically would not work on the Maddog stock. I believe Tony TT is carrying either a clone or a replica of the Baz unit.

So, what to do? I demanded a quick fill and pressure gauge to complete this outfit. Jim Gaska “Marmot_Militia” came through for me with something I didn’t even know existed…a “Straight/Shorty” EtaC equipped with the QD fill and a very nice 0-4K gauge. $100 and I’d buy another one and/or recommend this to anyone wanting to simply add features, but not length, to their Talon. It fits that Maddog stock like it was made for it! If you don’t look close, you can’t even tell it’s there.

Inside is a .25 polygonal rifled, 16″ LW barrel by Jim Gaska. The barrel is beautifully crafted at both ends. The crown is nicely inletted, and the breech accepts the bigger .25 pellets easily, and then snugs down on them at about half way in, for a really tight fit and seal. Again, really great craftsmanship. $180 for the barrel, custom cut to my specs.

Having had two cataract surgeries and two detached retinas, I am not going to embarrass myself with accuracy results. If I can get a place for the Caldwell bi-pod to sit, with the mods I’ve mentioned, it’s hard to miss anything within range. My target days are over, but I can still see well enough to snuff out anything within a 100 yards. I can still keep a 2″ group at that range, with a rest. You younger bucks can outshoot me, but a head shot is a head shot is a head shot. Nothing up to the size of a deer walks away from a .25 caliber head shot with a heavy slug.

The craftsmen are all given just due above, and the prices I’ve posted are the ones I know are real. All these guys do top of the line work, and you benefit from their expertise. There are more craftsmen on this forum who also do excellent work, and I’ve previously recommended them, but this post is about this rifle, and it’s journey to where I want it. The price ranges for these guys is there for the well heeled, and the not so well heeled. The great thing about this forum is, even if you are poor and ugly (me) you can still get what you want with excellent quality. Anyway, eating is over-rated, sleeping outdoors is good for your lungs, and who needs shoes and clothing. If you are patient, you can eventually afford to do just about anything with the AF Talon.

Now, I can start saving up for the only other pcp in the world I want, another Edgun .22 Bullpup standard, in the new R3 version.
