Spitzer pellets. Has anyone shot these?

Yup. An additional drive band set back from the current base would make me much more confident in these. I’ve tried a number of spitzer designs during the .25 slug project and with .32s as well. There are a couple good reasons why you don’t see spitzers on the general market. To make them accurate, they need to be long enough to be able to be seated in the leade or bore straight. This makes them too heavy to be effective and/or too long to be stabalized by the widely available guns. Both issues hurt accuracy. The long “aero nose” is also more susceptible to aerodynamic instability not just CG induced instability. Also, since subsonic form drag is dominated by base drag not nose drag, the aero performance payoff is not nearly as great as the trouble to get them to shoot well.

Sitting in a wind tunnel these spitzers will perform better than other bullets. But shot out of a gun, spinning and having been loaded via hand or bolt, they always end up being sub-par. But, if you feel lucky and have a couple bucks to spare there’s no reason not to try them and hope for the best. The ideal plan would be to develope a long spitzer that self aligns with the bore and is fired through a high twist rate barrel fast enough to stabalize it. That takes a change to the gun not just the pellet….

I tried some “air bullets” in the 1980s.Ever since then I’ve stuck to round head pellets.The “spitzer” shape does nor suit the relatively low power of air weapons,and unless these pellets have some new revolutionary feature they will produce awful groups and will be a waste of money and time.
