Standard .25 Matador
Hi, I registered here as I’m intending to get a .25 Matador. I was told by Ed that the long version is not available at present. I also read that the Matador was designed specifically as a .22 gun and maybe the long version of the .25 is/was an acceptable compromise. But what about the Standard .25?? Having found no posts on it, I thought I’d ask if anyone has such a gun and would he share his experience.
Thanks,
koljo

Don’t know if Tony (TalonTunes) ships to Bulgaria…but if he does I’m sure he can conjure up a mighty fine “Jackal buster” for you and might even save you some money as well 😉
It’s actually not that long compare to the Rapid, I have both and both has 24″ barrel, the rapid is much… longer than the Matador Long version.
I guess standard version is as good as long version, so if you don’t like longer gun, standard will be good for you, it’s much easier to shoot off hands also.
FYI!
The Matador .22 cal does not shoot well with those pellets mentioned, it shoot very well with the JSB 18.1 grain round nose pellets.
In-order to keep the accuracy, the max velocity you can do with the 18.1 grain pellet is 950 FPS, mine configured to shoot @ 930 FPS, 30 yard, 1 small hold, 1 or 2 fill. Based on the ChairGun Pro caculation, mine produced approximate 35 FPE, if I shoot it shoot it down range 50 meter, the energy drop to approximate 22 FPE.
You can just download the ChairGun Pro /install it and plugin your numbers, it will caculator and tell you everything.
As for the .22 Matador I absolutely agree with you. I happen to be the proud and privileged owner of a very special .22 gun, BSA’s JB PH I (John Bowket Prototype Hornet # 1) It is also configured to shoot at 930 fps with 18.1 JSB’s and is accurate beyond belief at this setting. But it’s a long gun, quite like the Rapid.
My search for the most accurate .25 gun that I can shoot in an instant from a car window continues but so far the shorter Matador has no rivals.
Thanks for the link, huck 😀 It did me good to read the topic again.
So, there is after all such a “thing” as Standard .25 Matador, which Ed specially produced to shoot JSB Kings. If I can use it from inside my 4×4 it’ is definitely my best option so far.
I don’t speak Russian well but I can understand 90% of what I read. Two things struck me going through the Edgun forum though. First, there was hardly any mention of 6.35 (.25) caliber Edguns by our Russian colleagues, and second, there were a lot of comments on how different (meaning long and heavy) the Morana was compared to the rest of the Edgun stable.
Bottom line: Morana will not suit my needs and I still have some minute reservations about the Matador being originally created as a .22 gun.

This means Eun Jin domed 28 gr. at 900 ft/s or JSB Monster 25 gr. at 950 ft/s. But are those pellets accurate enough to 50 m? I’ve heard they are OK for a lot shorter distances. The heaviest accurate long range ones I’ve tried were the h&n 21 gr. barracudas.
An accurate .22 with 50 fpe will take them down at 50m.
On second thoughts my dilemma is far from over :x. Just realized the Morana is quite a bit longer than the .25 Matador, which will rule out shooting easily and comfortably from a car window. Can’t win them all, can we…
But I’ll definitely go for a .25.
If that the case, then get the .25 cal or even larger for down range power.
Thanks mate. You see, I need the gun for jackal control. They are tough bu**ers — medium sized wild dogs that do a lot of damage to young deer, and I’m not sure if the .22 will do the job. Or would it?? What are the advantages of the .25 Morana over the Matador?
PS I’m far from power mad, I just want to pick the best gun for my intended purpose out to 50 m.
PS PS I’ve just read all I could find on the new Goddess and I think one in .25 might be the answer to my dilemma 😀
koljo,
I personally think, the Matador .22 cal will outshot the Matador .25 in accuracy and more shots per fill. But .25 will give you the power over the .22 cal.
I got the Matador .22 cal long version and I loved it. My next 1 will be “MORANA” .25 cal long version.
I must have got it wrong then. It’s possible that Ed referred to the .25 ones he makes at present as “Standard”, meaning “Long”. In any case if that’s the only length available in this caliber it makes my choice between the “Standard” .22 and the “Long” .25 more difficult. Perhaps someone with experience of both guns might comment on the pros and cons of each model.
I was pretty set on the .25 long matador also. I don’t know how long until Ed is going to be producing them again, but It feels like awhile. I instead went for the .22 cal. With the addition of heavier .22 pellets I don’t see much of a performance disadvantage. Idk…maybe I’m just trying to reason my pain away… 🙁

Thanks 80 GRIT for the suggestion but the length of Tony’s guns won’t do for my needs.
Today I cut 3 pieces of wood exactly to the length of the 3 bullpups produced by Ed: 680 mm (27.77 in) for the Short one, 745 mm (29.33 in) for the Standard one and 890 mm (35.04 in) for the Long one. Tested them all, “shooting” from my Pajero’s side window. I found the Short one perfect, the Long one uncomfortable, and the Standard one quite acceptable for my intended use. Since that was the shortest, lightest, accurate and reliable .25 gun I could find, my dilemma seems to be resolved 😀 😀 😀
