Q:

Standard Div/Extreme spread and air efficiency

Hi everyone

I’m playing with the regulator setting on my .25 cricket since I wanted it a bit faster than I previous shot it.
So I tried Ernest “measure method”, which did not work at all for me, it was WAY too hot compared to his settings, but here comes the strange thing.

If I set the regulator too hot and shot .25 kings at 997fps give or take, my SD was only about 2fps and ES about 4 and Air efficiency was same or not better than shooting at 880fps

Now I lowered regulator to match a speed of 925 fps which where I wanted, my SD is about 6-8 and ES about 14, but my air consumption have gone up(??)

I adjusted HST as it should (had to back it out quite a lot from shooting at 997)
Valve tension is TOUCH + 3/4 of a turn (tried TOUCH + two full turns previously)

Now I of course want the 2-3 SD/4 ES with best air efficiency at 925FPS, how to archive that…
Regulator is set now so absolut max is somewhere around 930fps.

I could live with 930 too but even if I adjust HST to go there, the SD/ES does not tighten up much.

I should say, when I shot it at 880fps the SD/ES was quite high too.

Also to set the HST:
The regulator is the most consistent when at max speed which was set in the above, max speed being that when turning the HST CW there will be a point at which no matter how much you turn CW it will not go up in velocity.

Back out HST CCW and chrono 3 shots.
Turn HST CW 1 full turn.
Shoot and chrono 3 shots.
If speed increased turn 1/4 turn take 3 shots.
Repeat till speed no longer increases, then back out HST 1/2 turn CCW.

At this point it is set to optimum and should be at your intended goal setting velocity. If not you may want to go in again and do some tweaking of the regulator setting.

Any incensement of the HST CW to try to increase the speed beyond this point will only increase air consumption not the speed.
But decreasing the HST CCW from this point will lower the speed and air consumption but may sometimes increase the SD/ES.

Hello Mel,

I can’t guaranty that this setting will get you to your goal since all guns vary.

Air consumption should go up with an addition of more speed ? strange
To measure I usually do a full shot crony and divide the bar pressure used by the number of shots taken.

Setting the reg to 110-115 bar.
On my friends 25 cal gave me a very steady 920 fps with JSB Kings.
I had the valve spring retainer set at 3/4 – 1 turn CW after contact.

Lowering the reg pressure to 110 to 115b with that pressure you should be in the 880- 920 fps range.
but not all reg, valve and hammer springs are equals and results my vary.

Consistency also lies in the hammer spring throw.
So I also cleaned and light lubed the hammer and spring as well.
Some buff and polish the Hammer also.
I don’t remember what his crony stats was but he is happy with it.

You could also try to set it to 997 fps and do a barrel rotation to decrease the transfer port size to bring the speed down to 920 fps.

I tighten the valve stem retainer further and that tighten the SD/ES bur air consumption went up even further it seems, oh well i get 4 mags anyway so i can live with that i suppose
