Standard Edgun Matador .22 shooting 207 meters (226 yards).
Weapon: EDgun Matador standard, caliber .22, speed of the pellet 885 f/sec.
Scope: Tasco SS 10х42, standard MilDot reticle (4 mils on each side). The turret of the vertical adjustment was set up to the limit and still wasn’t enough, so the aiming was by using the vertical line of the reticle (the wide one). It covers the can on this distance completely, so I had to replace the POI to the side and aim by putting the reticle near the can.
Pellets: JSB heavy, unsorted, unlabricated, just from the can.
Distance: 207 meters (226 yards), measured with the Nicon 800 rangefinder.
Conditions of the shooting: The shooting from the table, the shooter was sitting on the chair. The gun on the front gun rest. The changing wind from “the wind from the right” to “the wind from the back” with speed from 0 up to 15 f/sec. The temperature of the air 30 degrees Centigrade (86 F).
Target: Beer can, the diameter (the profile size in the width) 85 mm (3.35 inches), the hight about 200-220 mm (didn’t measured) 7.87-8.6 inches.
Task: To see the reality of the effective shooting using standard PCP airgun with standard pellets with standard speed at the distance 200 meter (226 yards) and more.
Results: In video.
Personal remarks: The video was cut in two positions, after the second can and after the fourth can. The reason of cutting after the second can – the stupidity of the shooter (me). When I sat to shoot I didn’t pay attention to the air level in the gun and when I found something was going strange there was less then 100 bar in the gun, so I removed that to made the video shorter. The cut after the fourth can just I missed it was about 20 shots and it took long time so I removed all those shots to make the video shorter. The rest as it was. I was wrong the table putting it on the hill and having it lower then the chair. So I had to shoot from beneath to the up at a little angle and it was quite uncomfortable, I couldn’t use the rear gun rest. To increase the results one can speed up the gun to decrease the time of exposition pellet to the wind but one needs to find the sweet spot of the gun in conditions of accuracy. Put the data to the ballistic calculator and fond funny thing the difference between the highest dot and the lowest dot of the trajectory was about 2.5 meters (2.7 yards), the energy of the pellet at the target 8.9 Joles (6.56 Ft Lbf) which is pretty enough for the alive target up to 1 kilo weight if you hit it in the proper place.
Conclusions.: The real distance for plinking. The necessary things::
a) To sort pellets carefully by the weight and calibrate them..
b) Choose the weather conditions, even light breeze change everything dramatically..
c) To use the scope base with the angle, it is not good to keep the scope with the turret up to the limit, you never know how it works.
d) Be very carefull with the shooting place, table, chair, gun rest….
f) It is disarable to put flags on the distance..
g) To shoot, shoot, shoot as much as possible, the distance is real there was just lack of shooting experience.
